Why It Could Be EASIER to Score Virtual Queues for Popular Rides in Disney World Soon

We hope you’re ready — a lot of changes are coming in 2024.

Magic Kingdom

In January alone, all-day park hopping is returning, Park Pass reservations are going away for most ticket types, and the Disney Dining Plan is finally coming back. On top of that, the way you make Virtual Queues will be changing as well, which could mean that you will have an easier time snagging one for Disney’s popular rides. Let us explain.

Currently, two rides in Disney World use a Virtual Queue system: TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Right now, you’re able to book a Virtual Queue (VQ) for one of these rides at 7AM for that day if you have a reservation for the ride’s park. There is another option to try to book one at 1PM, but you must be in the specific park at the time.

When Park Pass Reservations go away for most guests on January 9th, however, those who do not need a reservation for the park will also not need a reservation to try for a VQ at 7AM. When the change hits, you’ll only be able to book one VQ at a time (meaning you have to pick either TRON or Guardians of the Galaxy).

TRON Lightcycle / Run

The good news is that it will likely be easier to get a Virtual Queue in general when the change hits. With the new policy, if you try to get a Guardians of the Galaxy VQ, for example, and they book up before you snag one, you can then try to get a VQ for TRON.

Keep in mind that since you won’t need a park pass reservation to make a VQ, neither will most other guests, and they might fill up a bit faster. Thankfully, you’ll be able to try for another one if your first choice doesn’t pan out.
