NEWS: Disney World Issues WARNING About In-App Purchases

Disney technology has come a long way in recent years.

We’ve got virtual lines so we don’t have to waste our time standing, a way to order our food and pick it up just when we want it, trackless rides that fully immerse us into the story, and more. But, technology is a fickle beast, and the Disney World app is warning users of just that.

The year is 2002 — you’re in your bedroom, downloading ringtones on your very first flip phone. Life is good. And then, at the end of the month — you’re suddenly grounded for racking up a ton of charges on your parents’ cell phone bill. Just us? Okay, well, we’re obviously not the only ones who have fallen victim to in-app purchases — because Disney is now warning app users of the same.

We recently opened our My Disney Experience app only to be greeted with a new message. It reads, “This app contains in-app purchases for services like Disney PhotoPass downloads that cost real money.”

Genie+ and Mobile Order are two other features of My Disney Experience that cost “real money,” though if anyone knows where we can find any pretend money — we’re all ears (get it?!).

It’s unclear exactly why Disney started warning guests of this — perhaps a few too many kiddos got ahold of their parents’ phones and started buying themselves some souvenirs or corn dog nuggets. We honestly can’t blame them.

Keep in mind that you can set up a pin on your My Disney Experience account in certain situations so that unauthorized charges can’t be made without you knowing.
