Christmas Crowds Have ARRIVED in Disney World, and the Wait Times Aren’t Pretty

The holidays are here….and so are the crowds.

Disney World is a popular destination for families this time of year, with good reason. There are so many things to see and do, like try limited-time treats, ride attractions with their seasonal overlays, and meet characters in their holiday outfits. Unfortunately, that means it gets busy, especially during the week before Christmas, so pack your patience.

On December 19th, wait times soared for many of the rides around Disney World. In EPCOT, Frozen Ever After averaged around 95 minutes for the day, reaching 130 minutes at one point. In Animal Kingdom, Avatar Flight of Passage never dipped below 100 minutes, with a high of 190 minutes.

In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it was even more crowded. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance was down for most of the day. For the few hours that it was open, it had especially high wait times — reaching 205 minutes in the afternoon.

In comparison, wait times in Magic Kingdom weren’t quite as bad. Since the park closed early for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, there weren’t as many crowds as there usually are on non-party days. If you’re planning on heading to Disney World this week, you might want to start in Magic Kingdom on a day that there is a party to take advantage of the lower waits! Just keep in mind that the park will close early that day.

Alternatively, you could buy Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes to avoid some of these waits, but make sure to purchase them early — they can sell out when it’s busy! Let’s take a look at the rest of the wait times for December 19th, 2023.
