We Watched Almost 20 Minutes of ‘Wish’ at Disney World — And You Can Too!

On a recent trip out to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we noticed an exciting update.

Let’s see a sneak peek!

From time to time as new movies are soon to premiere in theaters, those who are visiting the park in the days prior may catch a sneak peek at the latest coming film. We’ve seen this in the past with films most recently with The Little Mermaid. Now, we’re catching a glimpse at Disney’s newest star!

This time we noticed “One Man’s Dream”, which typically plays in this theater at the end of this walk-through attraction, had changed to a sneak peek of Wish, Disney’s newest animated feature film set to premiere later this month.

As we made our way through the attraction we noticed that several animation pieces had been updated in the display cases just outside of the theater…

…and the doors to the theaters are also decked out in a multidoor poster teasing the film.

Once the doors open, you’re invited to take a seat inside the theater and enjoy the preview. However, Disney does request that no pictures or video be taken during this experience so we’ll give you the scoop:

When the preview opens, Ariana Debose greets you to welcome you in and tell you a bit about the character she voices for the film, Asha. The preview then leaps right into the film itself bouncing you through an animated musical number. This whole song talks about Asha wanting more than what’s apparent for the town and the people who live there and makes that plea out loud so passionately that she unleashes the power of a shooting star from the sky.

She’s a bit taken aback at first (who wouldn’t be?) but soon realizes what has happened and that this particular (thankfully friendly) star has the power to sprinkle dust on people, animals, and things to spring them to life.

Shortly after this, we’re among a newly talking Valentino, trees, mushrooms, and woodland creatures all singing about how Asha is a star inside just like all of them, she just didn’t realize it yet. We assure you though, she walks away believing after that incredible musical number.

The preview then quickly cuts to King Magnifico and Queen Amara talking among themselves having seen the light in the distance. The Queen is of the impression that this happened due to the King’s magical powers however, he corrects her that he had no doing in this and feels that his magic is now threatened.

From there we get flashes of some of the major plot points of the film including a public manhunt to find Asha as she’s held responsible for potentially undermining the King’s wish-fulfilling powers and throwing off the balance that hangs in his grasp. Can Asha find a compromise with King Magnifico and still have wishes fulfilled for the people? I guess we’ll be finding out soon!

We may be looking way too much into the animation style of this film but there appear to be very subtle nods to other Disney animated films throughout Disney’s 100 years of animation. In this brief preview, we spotted a white horse that looks suspiciously like Maximus from Tangled, singing trees styled like a modern version of the Silly Symphony trees, birds that resemble ones found in Sleeping Beauty following Aurora through the woods, and several of the singing woodland creatures could pass for styles associated with Bambi, Snow White, Robin Hood, and Brother Bear which we found very intriguing. There was also some cheeky humor for adults or older Disney kids and a few slipped-in double entendres during the speaking and sung phrases and script making it very reminiscent of the 90s Disney animated films.

Overall this preview didn’t give us much more to go on than what we’ve already seen from the trailers and recently released songs but it sure did make us even more eager to rush out to the theaters and check it out for ourselves.
