Disney CEO Bob Iger Is “Optimistic” About Hollywood Strike

Disney CEO Bob Iger hasn’t been quiet about his feelings on the SAG-AFTRA/WGA Strike.

Though the Writers Guild strike is over, the SAG-AFTRA strike continues, and Iger was asked about it during the Walt Disney Company’s fourth-quarter earnings call on November 8th, 2023. Here’s what he said.

During the third quarter earnings call back in August, Disney CEO Bob Iger brought up the ongoing writers strike in the saying “Nothing is more important to this company than its relationships with the creative community.”

He continued saying, “I have a deep respect for all those who are vital to the creative engine. It is my fervent hope that we quickly find solutions.” As we mentioned above, this comes after some controversial comments he made about the strike.

Iger had previously commented that the possibility of an actors’ strike (which had not yet been approved when he first spoke) was “disturbing” to him, and he claimed that the writers and actors had some expectations that were “unrealistic.”

The SAG-AFTRA strike continues, and Iger commented on it when asked during an interview with CNBC prior to the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call on November 8th, 2023.

He shared, “I have the utmost respect for actors — they are incredibly important to us for obvious reasons. I’m optimistic that we’ll figure that out relatively soon.” He went on to say that any impact on Disney’s business due to the strike has been “negligible” and that “we’re all very hard at work to try to solve this — even as we speak.”

Iger did warn, though, that “If the strike continues, it could become significant.”
