The Worst Decision You Can Make at Disney World’s Monorail Hotels

Disney World’s Monorail hotels are some of the most popular (and most expensive).

The Monorail at Disney’s Grand Floridian

The Monorail running directly to these hotels is a huge amenity that helps justify the price, plus you’re as close to Magic Kingdom as you can get. However, there are some mistakes you can easily make while staying at one of these hotels, and we’re here to help you avoid them!

Taking The Monorail at The Wrong Time

We know what you’re thinking: “AllEars, how can I take the Monorail at the wrong time?” At peak times, that’s what we mean. The Monorails can get wildly crowded very fast!

Monorail at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Now, is it the fastest way to get to the park? Debatable, depending on how long the line is at your hotel. It may actually be faster to walk if you notice the Monorail line is long, or you could take a Disney bus. However, if it’s off-peak time, definitely take advantage of the Monorail and get yourself over to the park ASAP!

Not Walking to Magic Kingdom At LEAST Once

If your party is able to, we recommend walking to Magic Kingdom at least once during your stay — we say it’d be a mistake not to!

Walkway to Contemporary Resort from Magic Kingdom

The pathways to the park are usually only seen by hotel guests and Cast Members, so it’s a cool experience not everyone gets to have. Most of these Magic Kingdom hotels are a 15- to 30-minute walk to the park, which can be beautiful and relaxing on a nice day.

Walking After a Long Day/When It’s Hot Out

This is Orlando we’re talking about, and most of the time it’s VERY hot outside. This is 100% not the time to walk to and from the park and hotel, and we also wouldn’t recommend walking BACK to the hotel after a long day.

Grand Floridian Pathway

Your feet are tired, you’re ready to hit the pillow and sleep for what feels like 3 years or 3 minutes (there is no in-between), so walking back may not be a great idea if you find yourself already hurting.

Spending Most of Your Time Away from Magic Kingdom

If you’re planning to spend most of your time in other parks, not Magic Kingdom, staying at a Monorail resort isn’t a great plan. Why? Because you’re barely taking advantage of the amenity!

Caribbean Beach Resort

Sure, you can take the Monorail to get to the Transportation and Ticket Center to hop on the EPCOT Monorail, but if you’re heading there or Disney’s Hollywood Studios more, it’s better to stay at a Skyliner resort instead. These are oftentimes less expensive than the Monorail hotels, too, so you can save some money!
