Could These 2 Long-Term Disney World Attraction CLOSURES End by 2023?

There are a couple of long-term closures that have plagued Disney World for months (and one has been happening for YEARS). Could these closures end in 2023?

Magic Kingdom

Check out this list of all the pre-scheduled closures that will affect the Disney World parks and hotels, including a couple of attractions that we’re really hoping to see reopen by 2024!

Barrel Bridge at Tom Sawyer Island in Magic Kingdom

Over on Tom Sawyer Island, the barrel bridge is currently closed. In fact, it’s missing completely!

The bridge is literally gone

A Cast Member told us that the bridge had been removed for refurbishments, and they’re not sure when it might be back. The bridge disappeared several months ago, but we’re still hoping that it might be back before the end of this year!

Where’d it go?

We’ll be sure to let you know about any updates.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The Barrel Bridge might return by the end of 2023, but we have less hope for the Voyage of the Little Mermaid stage show in Hollywood Studios.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

This show has been closed for a LONG time — since the pandemic-related closures of 2020, in fact.

Sign

Disney hasn’t announced that the show is permanently closed, but they also haven’t given any updates about a possible reopening. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that it could return soon!

Other Disney World Closures

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Splash Mountain closed on January 23rd, and it’ll remain closed until late 2024.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Disney is re-theming the ride to give it a Princess and the Frog theme. When it reopens, it’ll be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

On a recent trip, we spotted the new “Tiana’s Foods” water tower up in front of the ride. We’ll keep an eye out for more updates.

Disney World Hotel Refurbishments

There’s a big construction project happening at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, as a new DVC tower is being built. You might see or hear construction if you’re staying at that hotel.

Windows!

Over at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, some of the guest rooms are being updated, and the lobby is also getting a refresh.

Boardwalk Lobby

Also, there are a couple of NEW restaurants coming to the BoardWalk: The Cake Bake Shop and Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach

Disney World’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is closed for refurbishments. Disney has announced that it will REOPEN on November 6th!

Anna and Elsa

Typhoon Lagoon — Disney World’s other water park — is currently open but stops showing times on November 5th, so it’s likely that this one will close as Blizzard Beach opens.

  1. It’s been rumored for a long time now that the Voyage of the Little Mermaid building is infested with mold and the show is permanently cancelled. Of course, this is just a rumor, as we are nearing 4 years since the show failed to reopen after the pandemic shutdown, it appears it is more and more likely true.
