October 16th marks a big day in Disney World!
Yes, October 16th is the official anniversary date for the Walt Disney Company’s 100th Anniversary. But we’ve got more big news; it’s also the official day that Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is open to the public! Let’s take a look!
As of now, Journey of Water is open to all parkgoers. There’s no need to have a special status (Annual Passholder, Disney Vacation Club, or Cast Member) to journey and play with water any longer! While we’ve taken a sneak peek at this attraction previously, it is certainly a special day for all EPCOT guests.
While getting to EPCOT on its opening day, we noticed that the area near the entrance was pretty crowded. There was still room to move around and it wasn’t as packed as we thought it would be.
Disney did surprise us a few days ago with a soft opening of this new attraction. That day we saw that Disney was using a virtual queue for the attraction. On opening day, we have also noticed that they are continuing to use that system which certainly helps with the lines at the entrance.
We got into the park and right into the virtual queue using the My Disney Experience app. Boarding groups were moving quickly — 45 minutes after the park opened, 18 boarding groups had been called.
While we were lucky enough to preview the attraction, we had to go INSIDE on opening day!
Like we witnessed during the soft opening, there was actually plenty of room inside the attraction.

Everyone has a chance to play with the interactive aspects of the attraction.
Our favorite part might have to be the view of Spaceship Earth from here. She’s a beauty!
So far, opening day for the attraction has been a success. We’ll continue to bring you updates on this historical day in EPCOT! Remember it’s the official 100th anniversary of the Disney Company and the first day you can meet Moana in EPCOT.
