WARNING: This Disney World Character Meal Isn’t for Everyone

Character meals are some guests’ favorite parts of their Disney World vacation.

Mickey in Garden Grill

However, not all character meals are built the same, and because of that, not all of them are a good fit for you and your family. How do you know which ones are the best fit then? We’re here to help you figure it out!

If You’re Looking For A Quieter Meal

If you’re on the hunt for a quieter character meal, we can already tell you that Chef Mickey’s in Disney’s Contemporary Resort is NOT going to be a good fit.

Minnie at Chef Mickey’s

This is one of the most well-known and iconic character meals of all time, and since you get to meet members of the Fab 5, it’s very popular with families and kids. Which means that it’s usually pretty loud in there.

Services: Buffet/All You Care to Eat

So where should you go for a quiet character meal? We’d recommend heading over to Garden Grill, or Topolino’s Terrace. Both of these are quieter character meals, and they are not as popular as Chef Mickey’s, so there is a possibility of fewer families at these locations.

Price Doesn’t Match The Quality of Food

While the experience of Cinderella’s Royal Table is wonderful, meeting all those Princesses, the food doesn’t match the huge price tag in our opinion.

Royalty Meeting Royalty

This is truly a restaurant you go to for the meet-and-greet portion, not the food, which is why many think of it as a “one-and-done” experience.

Instead, we recommend heading over to Akershus Royal Banquet Hall! This is another character meal that isn’t as well known as others, but we adore the character experience as well as the food at this spot. You’ll get to meet Disney Princesses at Akershus, too!

You Want To Meet Classic Disney Characters

If you’re looking to meet classic Disney characters like Mickey, Minnie, and the rest of the Fab 5, or Disney Princesses, Crystal Palace is not the place to go.

Dining at Crystal Palace

While we love the Hundred Acre Wood gang over at Crystal Palace, not everyone would choose to meet them over other classic characters. If you find yourself in that group, this Magic Kingdom restaurant shouldn’t be at the top of your list.

Instead, we suggest heading over to Chef Mickey’s, Cinderella’s Royal Table, Garden Grill, Tusker House, or Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. All of these options will give you the opportunity to meet classic Disney characters and/or Princesses.

You Don’t Like Moving While You Eat

If you’re very sensitive to motion or find yourself getting motion sickness often, we don’t recommend dining at Garden Grill.

Garden Grill

This is one of our favorite character meals to recommend, but the restaurant does slowly rotate as you dine, and that’s not for everyone. It’s hard to tell, but if you suffer from extreme motion sickness, you may feel the movement.

If you don’t want to move while you eat, you can head to any other character dining experience! Garden Grill is the only restaurant in Disney World that moves while you dine, so you’ll be safe everywhere else!

If You’ve Got Picky Eaters

Lastly, if you’ve got picky eaters in your group, we wouldn’t recommend getting a reservation at Artist’s Point for Storybook Dining.

Storybook Dining

Once again, otherwise, this is one of our favorite character meals, but it does have some of the most sophisticated food, meaning picky eaters will have a hard time finding something on the menu here.

Looking for more straightforward dining options? We suggest the classic Chef Mickey’s, Hollywood & Vine, or Tusker House. All three of these choices have more classic breakfast options to please picky eaters.
