8 Places You Don’t Want To Uber To in Disney World

The truth is that sometimes it can be difficult to get around Disney World.

Walt Disney World

There is no end to the available options. Do you hop on the Skyliner, ride a resort bus, get a lift in a Minnie van, or maybe even walk from your resort? And we haven’t even mentioned Uber or the other rideshare options. Speaking of Uber, I wanted to go over a couple of situations where you wouldn’t want to use them when you’re at Disney World.

I go to Disney World nearly every day, so I know a thing or two about trying to get around. I also don’t drive, so taking rideshare in Orlando is a way of life for me! Like I said earlier, the spectrum is wide when it comes to the transportation options you have at Disney World. And unlike me, usually, if you are staying in a Disney World Resort, you’ll have access to the other free transportation methods to get around.

But there are still times when you might want to use a rideshare service. Disney transportation can be crowded and you might find yourself waiting in line for a Monorail, Skyliner or boat, or waiting 20 minutes or more for a bus. That’s why we say you should, in general, allow yourself on hour to get from one place to another using Disney World methods of transport. If you’re in a hurry — to get to a dining reservation or individual lightning lane you’ve purchased, for example — a rideshare might be the way to go.

Rideshare

And, we’ll be honest, sometimes even if you’re just on your way back to the resort, if you’re super hot hot, if you’re exhausted, if your little ones are cranky, it might be time to spend a little on a rideshare rather than fight for a seat on one more crowded bus.

So, talking about Uber and the other rideshare options specifically, let me give you a couple of scenarios when it’s not going to be in your best interest to use those services. It can be worth the money, but not at these times when the FREE transportation is actually better. Here we go!

Disclaimer

Again, these are my own opinions, and they aren’t a criticism of Disney transportation at all. Decide what works best for you!

1-Disney Resorts (Know the Rules)

Disney World in general has some pretty strict policies when it comes to Uber drop-offs. When it comes to the resorts, you can generally only use Uber to access them if you’re staying at that particular resort, visiting a friend staying there, or if you have a dining reservation.

If you try to use an Uber and don’t meet any of those points I mentioned, you won’t be allowed past the security gates. I don’t want you to feel that disappointment.

If you want an alternative transport method, you might want to use Disney’s own buses.

2-To Magic Kingdom from a resort (Avoid the Extra Step)

While it probably seems like a Disney World hack or a pro tip to try and Uber directly to the Magic Kingdom, it’s definitely not going to work! Here’s what’s going to happen: After you hop into your Uber, it’s going to drive around and then drop you off at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), not at the park’s entrance.

TTC

From there, you’ll still need to take either a boat or monorail to reach Magic Kingdom. There’s no way to avoid using one of these Disney transport methods to access the park unless you’re within walking distance.

Honestly, your best bet is still going to be using a resort bus or the Minnie Van service as they drop you off right at the park entrance, saving you time and effort.

3-Disney Springs (Choose Your Drop-Off Wisely)

So let’s say you’re wanting to Uber to Disney Springs, which isn’t a bad option in general. You just have to be mindful of where your Uber will drop you off.

Orange Garage in Disney Springs

Your Uber may drop you off at the Westside Bus Loop, which can lead to a potentially long walk through the Orange Garage to reach security, or it may drop you off at the Marketplace Loop, which puts you between Disney Days of Christmas and Mickey’s Pantry. That’s the same place you get dropped off by boat, so if you’re staying at a resort that offers boat transportation to Disney Springs (like Port Orleans, Old Key West, or Saratoga Springs), using that free transportation is a more convenient choice.

All aboard

Now, if you take a resort bus or Minnie Van, they will take you to the Town Center bus depot, which is centrally located within Disney Springs. So again, if you have access to a free Disney Bus, it might be your best option.

4-Contemporary Resort for the Contempo Café – (Don’t Try to Game the System)

We’ve got to talk about how people try to take a rideshare to the Contemporary Resort and show a mobile order for Contempo Café so they can walk from there to Magic Kingdom and avoid the TTC.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Disney has gone to great lengths, including push notifications that tell guests they can’t order from Contempo Café unless they are guests of that resort, to stop this practice. I’ve even had Uber drivers tell me it’s a zero-tolerance policy now and they get turned away all the time when a guest tries this.

Your best bet is just going to be sticking with a resort bus or the Minnie Van service.

5-Medical Needs

Need to fill a prescription while at a Disney World hotel? Consider using AdventHealth’s delivery service.

They offer standard and rush delivery options, which can often be more affordable than a round-trip Uber ($11 for standard delivery or $24 for rush delivery within 4 hours) and you can have your medications delivered right to your hotel room.

If you’re interested, here’s the phone number for AdventHealth delivery: (407) 939-7480.

6-Sassagoula River Cruise Resorts to Disney Springs (Go for the Boat Ride)

If you’re traveling between resorts located on the Sassagoula River Cruise routes and Disney Springs, don’t opt for Uber.

The boat transportation is not only fun but also highly convenient. It drops you off right next to the Marketplace Loop, one of the Uber drop-off locations.

Save your time and make the most of this amenity!

7-Monorail Resorts to Magic Kingdom (Don’t Be Deceived)

This is going to sound live deja vu, so apologies beforehand. It might be tempting to Uber from a Monorail resort to Magic Kingdom, thinking it’s faster than waiting for the monorail, but please, oh, please don’t fall for this trap!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

If you do, you will be in for a surprise when you arrive at the TTC and still need to take another monorail or a boat to reach the park. In some cases, walking can be quicker, even from resorts like Disney’s Polynesian Village and the Contemporary.

TTC crowds

Save yourself the extra hassle and either wait for the monorail or get in some extra steps by walking. Either option will be a more hassle-free trip to Magic Kingdom.

8-Getting Food or Groceries – Explore Delivery Services

When you’re in need of food or groceries at Disney World, it’s better to use delivery services like Instacart, Uber Eats, or GrubHub. These services can offer you convenience and a wide range of dining options. Also, becoming a Lyft Pink member gives you access to a free subscription to GrubHub+.

You’re going to find that the fees are often lower than a round-trip Uber. This way someone else does the work for you, and you can just focus on fully enjoying your Disney experience.

I know Uber can be convenient in a lot of situations, but the scenarios I mentioned have better alternatives that can save you time, money, and hassle.
