We’ll Never Pay for This in Disney World Again

Disney World is full of things to spend your money on!

Magic Kingdom

There is a lot of merchandise to buy while you’re at Disney World. From Minnie ears to autograph books, you are sure to find something you’ll want to pull your wallet out for. However, some of these items you might regret later. Our readers are here to help you not make the same mistakes they did.

We asked our readers on Facebook “What have you bought in Disney World that you’ll never buy again?” and you all had some shocking opinions.

The Disney Dining Plan

Starting strong, our reader Paige said “Deluxe Dining. It was all so delicious and a fun experience. But just too much food.” The Deluxe Dining Plan was the top tier of the plans and included 3 sit-down or quick-service meals and 2 snacks. Each meal included an appetizer, entree, dessert, and beverage, which can be a lot of food for some guests.

After a long hiatus, the dining plan is returning next year. When it returns, there will only the be Quick Service Plan and the Standard Plan. There will no longer be the Deluxe Dining Plan, however, many of our readers said even the general dining plan was too much food for them.

Turkey Legs

Katy simply replied, “Turkey Legs” and she wasn’t the only one. There were SO MANY comments saying that as well. While we know there are lots of Turkey Leg fans out there, there are just as many people who can’t understand the appeal of this MASSIVE snack. It’s a polarizing opinion on a snack choice in Disney World.

Glow With The Show Items

This one is going all the way back to 2013. Cinderella Castle was still blue and grey and Glow With The Show items had just been released. These ear hats would glow to complement the imagery and beat of the fireworks and spectaculars.

Glow with the Show

Eric said, “Glow with the show wands and ears” was one of the things he would never buy again, which is true. 10 years later, these are no longer sold at Disney World.

Popcorn Buckets

Alright, everyone remain calm. Popcorn buckets are also a controversial item among our readers. Our reader Angela said “It makes me sad to say it but popcorn buckets. They’re adorable but we never use them when we get home. I always have these fun ideas for them but they end up sitting in a cabinet or box untouched.”

Food and Wine Popcorn Bucket

Many readers shared the same thought. We think it depends on what you want to do with it long term. We suggest thinking about that before making the purchase. Some of the specialty buckets people collect and display, while some truly love carrying them in the parks.

Items Bought in an Emergency

Sometimes at Disney World, the weather may surprise you and you might not have come prepared. Barbara said, “A beach towel to keep me warm during a parade”. It can get chilly at night, especially in those winter months.

Many comments also talked about ponchos. Indeed, sometimes the ponchos you’ll buy in an emergency at the parks can tear, not to mention they are pretty pricey. We recommend bringing your rain jacket or a poncho with you to the parks.

Bubble Wands

Our reader, Camie, boldly stated “BUBBLE WAND!” There are a few different bubble wands to choose from at Disney World featuring some of your favorite characters or even seasonal ones.

So many bubble wands!

These are pricey and you’re kids will likely only use it a few times outside of Disney World. They can also leak if you aren’t careful. You may want to avoid these on your next trip.

Bottled Water

Bottled water is another one we saw a lot of. Our reader Shawn had a great point. He said “Bottled water. Free ice water at counter service locations all the way”.

Free Water

The bottled water in the parks will cost you $3.75 — that will add up quickly. Instead, grab some free ice water at quick service locations all around the parks. We have Craig’s ranking of all the best free water in Disney World that you should check out!

Separate Ticketed Parties

This one may surprise some, but we had many readers say they would never buy a ticket to a holiday party again. Cameron wrote “Christmas party tickets. I’m sure some people love it, but it was just not for my family & was really expensive.”

These parties are pricey, especially if you are choosing to purchase a day ticket on top of that. While there is specialty food, characters, and entertainment,  it’s not always for everyone. With a price tag that big, you’ll want to discuss it with your party to make sure it’s something you will all enjoy.

Boo to YOU!

Minnie Ears

Finally, Minnie ears were another common answer. Liz wrote “Ears…Like I’m gonna wear that all day. Not hardly. So uncomfortable.” Some find Minnie ears uncomfortable and for $34.99, you’ll want to make sure you will wear them around the parks.

Wall of ears

It can also become a bit of a habit that can add up. We may have a large pile of Minnie ears in our closet, some of which we don’t even wear. If you feel like you easily get headaches from wearing items on your head or don’t believe you’ll use these, you might want to skip out.

That’s all for now from our readers. We appreciate all the answers to the question as it helps others prepare for their upcoming Disney vacation. For more, follow us at AllEars.net,

  1. I never understood the value of the Dining Plan. I did my figures and could never justify paying that much to eat. I guess if people want to eat and snack all day then I can understand it. I heard guests liked the convenience of having their trip completely paid for before leaving. One way to think about it. If Disney isn’t making money off of it then they wouldn’t offer it. Think “Magical Express,” and “Fastpass.”

  2. I can’t imagine skipping ears!!! And I love my Halloween themed Mickey popcorn bucket from last year’s Halloween party, I use it in my Halloween decor!
