We Tried 6 NEW Snacks at Disney’s Contemporary Resort — These Are the 5 We’d Get Again

Magic Kingdom is full of some iconic Disney food.

Contemporary Resort

Mickey Premium Bars, DOLE Whip, and Mickey pretzels — there are plenty of options for you to snack on throughout the day. But recently, Disney’s Contemporary Resort released a new menu at their Contempo Cafe that tempted us to leave the park to grab some food. Follow along as we review the new eats!

Background

The Contempo Cafe is located on the fourth floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Contempo Cafe

We’ve often found exciting treats here, from Cinderella Cupcakes during Princess Week to fun Springtime desserts for Easter.

How Fun Is That?!

Sometimes, you can even find limited-time souvenirs, like the Donald Duck Candy Corn Halloween Sipper.

Atmosphere

Located on the 4th floor of the contemporary, it’s in the Grand Canyon Concourse — adjacent to Chef Mickey’s. That means while you’re eating you’ll be able to watch the Monorail go by, through the building!

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

The whole area is bright and airy, but it can get pretty loud. Not only does the Monorail zoom past every few minutes, but this section of the resort draws a lot of families, so there is a lot of hustle and bustle most times during the day.

Regardless, it’s still a fun atmosphere worth checking out, and most of the food is better than what you might expect!

Food & Drinks

There are 13 (!!) new eats at this spot, and we tried 6 of them!

Full spread

First up, we got the Signature Rice Bowl for $12.99. The bowls include a combo of cilantro-lime rice, black beans, street corn, avocado, pico de gallo, carrot, and pickled red onion, and are topped with your choice of protein — we got ours with grilled chicken!

Signature Rice Bowl

The chicken was great — tender and juicy with great flavor. We especially loved the corn and crema sauce which was cheesy and delicious! The avocado was fresh, creamy, and bright.

Signature Rice Bowl

Overall, this dish had a bit of a southwest flavor that we enjoyed!

This was great!

Next, we tried the Spicy Chicken Sandwich for $11.79. This comes with pepper Jack, chipotle rémoulade, arugula, seasoned tomato, and dill pickle chips and is served on a brioche bun.

Spicy Chicken Sandwich

The chicken was thin but nice and crispy. The sauce added a nice creamy texture, and the relish, tomato, and lettuce were bright and fresh. This was SPICY, however, so keep that in mind if you are averse to spice! Not just Disney spicy, but normal spicy.

This was SPICY!

On to the desserts! We ordered the Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums Cupcake for $6.49. This is a chocolate cupcake topped with chocolate chip cookie dough mousse themed to the Incredibles.

Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums Cupcake

This would be a really fun option for a kid — the bottom is a traditional chocolate cupcake but the mousse on the top had tons of cookie dough flavor!

While it wasn’t our reporter’s cup of tea, we think it’s still a solid option if you’re looking for something kid-friendly with well-loved flavors.

Perfect for kids

Next, we got the Kitchen Sink Cookie for $4.29. This is a chocolate chunk cookie with toffee, peanut butter chips, salted caramel, and flaky salt. This was a very soft and gooey cookie with a fair amount of caramel, which was delicious but made it messy!

Kitchen Sink Cookie

The peanut butter, salted caramel, and chocolate flavors came through the most, but it truly was an everything cookie. The only thing that might make this a tad more interesting would be a crunchy texture element, but we enjoyed how soft it was.

We also tried the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar for $5.99 — a chocolatey treat with peanut butter and strawberry that is gluten and wheat friendly! The chocolate in this dessert was really rich. We loved the way the peanut butter tasted with the chocolate, but kind of would have preferred this without the strawberry.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar

While we think narrowing this down to either chocolate and peanut butter or chocolate and strawberry would have been better, if you’re a fan of PB&J flavors, you’ll probably really like this! You can’t really tell that it’s plant-based.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar

Lastly, we tried the Monorail S’more Brownie for $5.79. This was a fudgy brownie with a graham cracker crust topped with marshmallow creme and chocolate decor.

Monorail S’more Brownie

Unfortunately, even though it’s adorable, this was a miss for us! The brownie was dry, and it wasn’t particularly sweet. The graham cracker didn’t hold onto the rest of the treat very well and it ended up being a bit messy.

This didn’t blow us away.

While the flavors on this weren’t bad altogether, the textures just weren’t that great — it was a little dry and crumbly, so we wouldn’t get it again.

Should You Go?

If you are staying at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, we highly recommend grabbing a quick bite at Contempo Cafe. However, we’re not sure these new items are worth leaving Magic Kingdom or going out of your way to get.

Contempo Cafe is highly recommended by AllEars readers as a whole with 97% saying they would recommend the restaurant. It also has an 8.16 rating out of 10 — and we’d have to agree that there are some delicious options here!

Magic Kingdom is home to several delicious desserts like the Cheshire Cat Tail and Dole Whip (just to name a couple). When it comes to the savory options we tried, you can get a similar dish to the Rice Bowl over at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe

…or a Spicy Chicken Sandwich at Cosmic Ray’s. We will say that the Contempo Cafe versions are better, but if you are just looking for something similar that is more convenient in Magic Kingdom, you do have those options.

If you do want to leave Magic Kingdom for food along the Monorail, we recommend going somewhere with more unique options like at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort!

Overall, these are welcome additions to the menu at Contempo Cafe and we’ll be trying them again the next time we find ourselves at the Contemporary. Keep following AllEars for more thoughts on Disney food!
