Disney’s Hollywood Studios Has a BIG Problem

You can spend countless hours planning the perfect trip to Disney World — and things will still go wrong.

Your flight might be delayed, that pesky Florida summer rain might get you, and arguably the most upsetting of all: the attraction you’ve been dying to ride is closed. For folks visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios today, that’s exactly what happened.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios seems to be having quite a rough day when it comes to rides — we’ve seen closures, high wait times, and all sorts of strange ride phenomena happening in this park. So, what’s the deal? It all started when Slinky Dog Dash went down temporarily.

While this might not seem like that big of a deal — it caused wait times throughout the rest of Toy Story Land to skyrocket.

At one point, Alien Swirling Saucers even had a higher wait time than…

…Tower of Terror (though this is partly due to Tower having recently reopened after also being closed)!

Not only that, but because Slinky Dog Dash was closed, the wait for Toy Story Mania also shot up to 105 minutes.

And, if you know anything about Hollywood Studios ride, you know that there’s one that tends to be closed more often than others: Rise of the Resistance. It appears that’s the case here as well.

But, it may just be a bad day for Hollywood Studios rides, as Star Tours was also closed at one point. What’s a Disney fan to do in these conditions?!

Well, don’t panic. More often than not, a temporarily closed ride will reopen once Disney solves the problem. But, sometimes it takes a bit longer and there’s the possibility that a ride will not reopen. It’s important to temper your expectations and try to go with the flow on your trip. If you purchased a Lightning Lane for a ride, Guest Services can usually help you out if you ask.

Keep in mind that when a ride closes, it means the people who would normally be waiting in that line (and NOT taking up space in the rest of the park) are now forced to go elsewhere, which can cause wait times to increase at other nearby attractions. And, Hollywood Studios doesn’t have as many rides as say, Magic Kingdom, meaning there are fewer rides to help spread out guests.

Here’s what to do if a ride suddenly closes during your trip:

  • Check the My Disney Experience app constantly for updates (if a wait time for the ride is displayed, you’ll know the ride has likely reopened)
  • Ask Cast Members outside of the ride if they know what has happened and if they have a better idea about when the ride might reopen
  • Come up with a plan “B” in advance in case one of your must-do rides unexpectedly closes
  • Mentally prepare little ones for potential closures by discussing the possibility at home
  • Use that closure time to knock other things off of your list, take a break, grab a snack, or otherwise utilize your time in the park!
