Surprising Trend Revealed by Disney World Wait Times

Okay, friends, when we say “Fourth of July in Disney World,” what do you think of? Probably fireworks, snacks, and CROWDS — like, serious crowds, right? Well, you might be surprised by what we’ve seen.

On the Fourth of July in 2023, we saw some bigger crowds in certain areas, but other parts of Walt Disney World had surprisingly low crowds and short wait times. Now, we’ve got a full look at the wait times data and it’s something you’ve got to see to believe.

Have holidays dramatically changed in Disney World? It’s possible. We’ve seen some surprising crowds on holidays recently and Disney CEO Bob Iger has noted in the past how Disney is using the Park Pass system to regulate crowds during certain peak periods. With changes coming to the Park Pass system in 2024, that all might go away, but for now things are looking pretty interesting.

As an example, let’s look at this year’s Fourth of July wait times compared to last year’s. In 2022, the average wait times for some of the most popular rides in the parks were as follows:

• Magic Kingdom — Seven Dwarfs Mine Train — 81 minutes
• EPCOT — Frozen Ever After — 68 minutes
• Disney’s Animal Kingdom — Avatar Flight of Passage — 64 minutes
• Disney’s Hollywood Studios — Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance — 78 minutes

By comparison, here’s a look at the average wait times for those rides on the Fourth of July in 2023:

• Magic Kingdom — Seven Dwarfs Mine Train — 77 minutes (4-minute decrease)
• EPCOT — Frozen Ever After — 73 minutes (5-minute increase)
• Disney’s Animal Kingdom — Avatar Flight of Passage — 58 minutes (6-minute decrease)
• Disney’s Hollywood Studios — Rise of the Resistance — 37 minutes (41-minute DECREASE)

The most dramatic change really seems to be with Rise of the Resistance. Last year, the Fourth of July wait times surprised us with how low they were and it seems that trend has only continued, except at Frozen Ever After where this year there was a slight increase.

Is this a sign of things to come? It’s not totally clear. Holidays can still bring in big crowds and heavy wait times so that’s something you should be prepared for. But it’s possible that some smaller holidays might shock you in terms of lower wait times…at least for now.
