NEWS: Mega Producer To Leave Netflix For Disney

It’s hard not to put Netflix and Disney against each other when it comes to streaming.

Disney+ has been a HUGE competitor to Netflix since it launched in 2019. Disney+ has been able to bring in some HEAVY hitting programming, too, thanks to Disney’s ownership of ABC, Marvel, and Star Wars. Now, Disney has taken something BIG from Netflix.

Super producer Ryan Murphy is known for the shows he’s previously made for 20th Century Fox TV, thanks to shows like GleeAmerican Horror Story, Pose, and more. However, five years ago, Murphy switched allegiances to work with Netflix on shows like Dahmer, Ratched, and more. That deal happened just before Disney bought 20th Century Fox.

However, according to Bloomberg, Murphy is leaving Netflix for a new deal with Disney and re-joining his longtime collaborator Dana Walden, the  co-chairman of Disney Entertainment.

Of course, given his reputation for darker more adult entertainment, it’s likely none of Murphy’s projects will end up on Disney+ (although Glee is currently streaming on the service). More than likely, if we had to guess, Murphy might be tasked with creating new content for Hulu. Disney has not yet released a statement about how Murphy will be working with the company and what kind of projects he will helm, though.
