Hold Up. You Can Stay INSIDE One of Walt Disney’s Old Houses?!

Maybe you’ve dreamed about staying in the Cinderella Castle Suite at Disney World, but what if we told you we’ve run across a historic Disney place to stay that could top even THAT?

With so many gorgeous Disney hotels to stay in, castles to rent, and incredible houses you can own inside Disney World at Golden Oak there are so many iconic places to go on and on about, but there may be one other place you need to look at adding to the top of that list asap!

Now you can do a little bit more than just stand where Walt once stood, you can LIVE like he did too! Did you know that Walt Disney had a home in California that has been dubbed by some as “Walt Disney’s Storybook Mansion“? It’s the place that Walt moved his family to after the success of the Mickey Mouse and Silly Symphony short films.

The house is located in the Los Feliz district near Griffith Park in Los Angeles.

The house was built back in 1932 and was designed by architect Frank Crowhurst. Fun fact: Crowhurst would go on to help make the Walt Disney Company headquarters in Burbank, California. Eventually, Walt moved from this home to another in Holmby Hills but still, this was a home WALT DISNEY LIVED IN! TALK ABOUT HISTORY!

We shared some photos of this GORGEOUS California-based home before, but the Wall Street Journal has recently reported an important update — the home can be RENTED.

The property is currently owned by Kazakhstan-born film director Timur Bekmambetov, who has owned the home since 2011 and purchased it for a cool $3.7 million.

Bekmambetov had been working with a Disney historian and blogger to organize tours of the property. But, that has since been stepped up a notch and he is now giving people the opportunity to rent the home.

When asked about the change, Bekmambetow said it is because he wants people to be able to experience staying there.

According to Disney historian and blogger Todd Regan, some of Walt Disney’s greatest works were created while living in the house, including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, and Pinocchio.

Some of the original features of the house have been carefully preserved, like leaded-glass windows, paintings on the ceilings in the foyer and dining room, and more. There’s a screening room where Disney reportedly watched some of his movies and a playhouse in the yard that Disney reportedly gave his daughters in 1937.

Bekmambetov used old photos of the home to restore it to its original appearance (back when he originally bought the home) and it is full of antiques meant to look similar to Walt Disney’s furniture. Interestingly, Bekmambetov is actually working on a graphic novel and movie script about “fictional Disney characters who never made it to the big screen.”

If you’re already clamoring to be next in line to rent Walt Disney’s former fairytale home, you might want to crack open a BUNCH of piggy banks. The going rate for a month’s rent is set at $40,000!
