Who Is the Strongest Avenger?

Avengers Assemble! As a team, the Avengers are the most powerful force on Earth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

However, not ALL Avengers are created equal, and some are more powerful than others. But if we pitted the Avengers against each other (we know, SO mean!), who would win? Well, let’s find out!

Okay, so we could be here all day if we listed EVERY Avenger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which is what we’re focusing on), so we’re going to list the FIVE most powerful Avengers in the MCU. Note that this is a completely unscientific list, so feel free to agree OR disagree with us.

5. Hulk

Physically, Hulk is one of the strongest Avengers, right up there with Thor. Bruce Banner is pure brute strength in his Hulk form, and he proved just how strong he was when he grabbed Loki and swung him around in The Avengers.

Now that Hulk and Bruce Banner have sort of merged their identities, though, he seems far less interested in fighting, but that didn’t stop him from training his cousin, She-Hulk.

4. Thor

When it comes to brute strength, it’s hard for anyone to take on Thor, who is, essentially a god. We learn in Avengers: Infinity War that Thor could’ve taken out Thanos if he had just aimed for the villain’s head. However, we learn Avengers: Endgame that he DID kill Thanos in the original timeline.

It doesn’t hurt that he also has the ability to command the entire army of Asgard. Although he isn’t immortal, he’s pretty much invulnerable, and he can summon the power of lightning.

3. Doctor Strange

Okay, magic can make for a powerful being. Stephen Strange might not possess a lot of physical power, but he can wield magic in a way that leaves his enemies blindsided. He can use any kind of spell without being affected in any way, but he also has a great intellect that helps him make snap decisions on the spot. Did we mention he can also teleport?

To top it off, a spell he cast in Spider-Man: No Way Home (that was just supposed to make everyone forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man) goes awry and breaks the entire multiverse wide open. At the end of Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, we also learn that he is a threat to multiple universes. Also, his alternative self in What If? is utterly terrifying and uber-powerful.

2. Captain Marvel

Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, has the power of the COSMOS, and that’s a LOT of power. She’s physically super strong, thanks to her powers, but also has the agility and durability to just about take on anyone. Once she recognized her energy powers, though, she became unstoppable.

Captain Marvel can also fly, as well as take out entire spacecraft (which she’s done TWICE). She also doesn’t seem to age because she looks and acts pretty much the same as she did 30 years ago.

1. Scarlet Witch

You want powerful? Scarlet Witch has the power to cross worlds with her mind and possess her other selves in them with the help of the Darkhold. We see her do this multiple times in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness when she possesses a more innocent version of herself and kills the ENTIRE team of Illuminati members.

Even before that, though, she trapped an ENTIRE town in her own little imaginary sitcom world, in WandaVision just so she could have the life with Vision that she’d always wanted because she couldn’t cope with the grief of losing him.

So we think these are the five most powerful Avengers in the MCU so far, but the MCU continues to change and grow. We expect new members to be added to the Avengers team in the future, so this list could change.
