Well, This Is NOT How We Expected to Start Our Day in Disney World

Heading to Disney World? Things might NOT be what you’d expect today.

Let’s Go to Disney World

We saw some surprising crowds over the Memorial Day Weekend holiday (and even more surprising wait times). Things were somewhat emptier on days expected to be busier, and busier on days that could be emptier. And now it seems that the confusing crowd trend continues.

On May 31st, we started our day at the Transportation and Ticket Center and things were WEIRDLY busy. THESE were the crowds on a WEDNESDAY.

The Transportation and Ticket Center features a security check, monorail transportation to Magic Kingdom, the monorail resorts, and EPCOT, as well as boat transportation to Magic Kingdom and more. So it’s not unusual for it to be somewhat busy and it makes sense why the transportation hub would have some crowds, but these crowds are unlike what we’ve seen recently.

Guests were arriving at the front via the parking trams, only to then have to walk around the LARGE security lines to get their spot. And the trams just kept coming with more and more guests!

WOW

Ultimately, the security portion of this experience didn’t take all that long. It was less than 10 minutes to get from the security line through to the monorail line, but it is still quite unusual (at least in recent times) to see the lines be this long.

And once we got to the line for the monorail to Magic Kingdom, things were backed up…again.

More Lines

We were able to move through things fairly quickly but it was surprising to see so many people this early in the morning on a Wednesday.

Crowds

To be fair, this Wednesday did follow the Memorial Day weekend, so perhaps some folks stuck around after their weekend vacations (though, again Memorial Day weekend crowds were a bit strange).

It’s also possible that the Transportation and Ticket Center area was partially full of folks trying to hop on the monorail to EPCOT to pick up the new Figment Annual Passholder magnet (which was released on May 31st and had developed quite the line early in the day).

Crowds

We’ll continue to monitor crowd levels in the parks so you know what to expect in the coming days and weeks.

In big Disney World news, note that 2024 Disney World vacation bookings became available on May 31st, as did Disney Dining Plan reservations for vacations on January 9th, 2024, or later. So get booking NOW. And stay tuned for more Disney updates.
