Do NOT Make a Critical Disney World Ride Mistake

You could be making a HUGE Disney World ride mistake and not even realizing it — but don’t worry, we’re here to help.

There’s a lot to do in Disney World between checking out meet and greets, buying some newly released merchandise, and figuring out Genie+ so you can hop on your favorite rides with shorter waits. But if you’re heading to the parks and simply planning to hop into the lines for your favorite rides without a plan, you could be making your day MUCH more complicated.

Disney World wait times do NOT stay the same throughout the day. In other words, a ride’s wait time can be dramatically different in the morning versus the early afternoon, or at noon versus 9PM. Those differences aren’t meaningless. They can actually make a HUGE difference in your plans for the day and in helping you get on more rides.

Take Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance as an example. On May 8th, the ride’s wait times ranged from 30 minutes to 285 minutes!!!!! That’s HUGE people — we’re talking about a difference of a half-hour wait versus a wait of OVER 4 hours! So what happened?

Well, the ride started with an 85-minute wait in the morning but then temporarily closed around 10AM. It then remained closed for SEVERAL hours. By the time it reopened closer to 3PM, many people had been waiting to get on and those who had Individual Lightning Lanes from earlier in the day were also likely slowing things down as they returned to finally get on the ride.

But the long wait time didn’t last all day long. By 5PM the wait time dropped to 150 minutes, and at 6PM it was 85 minutes. Then wait times spiked up to 260 minutes. But by 9PM the ride only had a 30-minute wait time — dramatically less than anything seen earlier.

So, what’s the lesson here? Don’t just hop in line whenever. TIMING is everything! If you can time your visit to a particular ride carefully, you could get on it with a MUCH shorter wait.

How do you know when to hop in line? There are a few different things you can do. First, you can use the My Disney Experience app to see predicted wait times. That can help you get a feel for when a ride might not have as long of a wait.

Second, you can take a look at the wait times below from May 8th, 2023 to see when (on that date) rides had shorter wait times. That won’t be an exact prediction of the future, but it could give you a good general idea about when rides might have shorter waits.
