The Unexpected Attraction You Should Rope Drop in Disney World Right Now

Rope dropping in Disney World can be a lifesaver to help you complete everything you want to in one day.

Early morning rope dropping crowds!

As a refresher, rope drop is when you arrive at the park before it opens so that you can get ahead of the crowds and ride popular attractions with a shorter wait time first thing in the morning. We’ve got a whole video about sneaky rope drop tips and have countless posts on the best attractions to rope drop in the different parks — yes, it’s that important! When we say you could potentially save yourself hours of waiting in line if you rope drop the right attraction, we’re not kidding. There’s a new attraction in Animal Kingdom that now may take the top spot for many to rope drop — here’s why.

The new Moana meet and greet was introduced to Animal Kingdom a few weeks ago and has become, understandably, wildly popular.

Hi Moana!

This is the only set place in Disney World where you can meet Moana, so she attracts some pretty long lines. And by that, we mean one of the LONGEST lines in the park!

Meet Moana

Our reporters have told us that Moana’s meet and greet line can stretch hours long throughout the day, similar to Flight of Passage’s line can. One afternoon, we found out that the wait time for Moana was up to 2 and a half hours! So if meeting Moana is of utmost importance to you, you’ll want to rope drop her meet and greet.

Long Flight of Passage line — this is what Moana’s line has looked like too!

One of our reporters did this the other day, and while she did still have to wait a little bit (meet and greet lines move pretty slowly to begin with), it was a much better wait than what it got to later in the day.

Yes, depending on how early Animal Kingdom opens, this may mean you won’t get to rope drop Flight of Passage. But if you’re willing, you can buy an Individual Attraction Selection for it to completely skip the line. We’ve seen some long lines at Flight of Passage, but you might actually end up waiting longer at the Moana meet and greet.

Entrance to Moana’s meet and greet

However, if the park opens at 8AM and the Moana experience still opens at 9:30AM, you’ll be able to rope drop Flight of Passage first and then get in line for Moana. Take a look at the park hours and meet and greet times before you head to the park so you have a plan!

Moana’s meet and greet is located right before the bridge to DinoLand (where Kevin used to greet guests from a distance), and we suggest checking your My Disney Experience App on the date of your trip to see what times she is out. Recently, Moana has been meeting from 9:30AM to 3PM but this can change.

As always, stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest Disney news!
