DeSantis’ Plan to Inspect Disney World Monorails Takes Next Step

We’ve seen lots of updates in the ongoing battle between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently.

Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District has been replaced with the new Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, led by a board that DeSantis hand-picked. Since the new board has taken over, we’ve learned a lot about actions they plan to take against Disney, including possible lawsuits and changes to procedures across the resort. And now, we have an update on new regulations for monorail inspections.

Previously, the Disney World monorail system was exempt from inspections by the Florida Department of Transportation because Disney has its own inspection team. But now, DeSantis is looking to change this.

Monorail

According to the Orlando Sentinel, lawmakers have offered up a new amendment to a transportation bill scheduled for a hearing before the Senate Fiscal Policy Committee. The amendment would require the Department of Transportation to establish safety standards for any private or fixed-guideway system “located within an independent special district created by local act which have boundaries within two contiguous counties.”

The bill also gives the DOT the power to suspend service of the transportation while inspectors survey any raised portion of the railway. This means that the DOT could temporarily halt monorail service at Disney World to perform inspections. Disney’s monorail has 14.7 miles worth of track and carries up to 50 million passengers a year, so it’s possible that this could cause backups with transportation at the parks.

  1. He has small man syndrome and he’s trying to throw his weight around to prove he’s a big man. He will look very silly when he loses to a small mouse.

  2. let Disney do their own inspections, the governor is a pain in the butt. hope he doesn’t become president because he will ruin the United States.

  3. I’m so sorry Disney has to deal with this moron. This is just him out for revenge. I wish Disney’s legal team would really go after him. Not all of us here in Florida like him.
