Several Major Rides Unexpectedly CLOSE in Disney World

If you’re planning a trip to Disney World soon, it helps to be prepared. There’s nothing worse than walking into a Disney park only to find unexpected closures and changes that will impact your day!

Welcome to Disney World

Are all of your Park Passes reserved? Do you know the ins and outs of Genie+? Did you take advantage of the latest hotel deals and discounts? Have you grabbed all of the dining reservations you need? You might have done lots of preparing ahead of time, but there’s another thing you might not be expecting that you NEED to know about — ride closures.

Ride closures are sometimes scheduled and part of a designated refurbishment project. But often, rides can suddenly and unexpectedly close during your trip due to several issues, like technical problems. If you aren’t mentally prepared for the idea of a ride closure or two happening to you, your trip might not go as smoothly as you may have expected.

We’ve seen all kinds of rides closed over the past few months, and now we’ve spotted even more. This morning, April 21st, several attractions were listed as “Temporarily Closed” on the My Disney Experience app:

Keep in mind that sometimes ride closures like these may not last very long. Other times, though, they can last several hours. It just depends on the reason for the closure!

UPDATE: After checking the My Disney Experience app later in the morning, we noticed that Frozen Ever After, the Magic Carpets of Aladdin, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure reopened. Clearly, things can change at any moment!

UPDATE as of 11:40AM: Later in the day, Kilimanjaro Safaris and Slinky Dog Dash were temporarily closed, while all other rides had reopened.

Here’s what to do if a ride suddenly closes during your trip:

  • Check the My Disney Experience app constantly for updates (if a wait time for the ride is displayed, you’ll know the ride has likely reopened)
  • Ask Cast Members outside of the ride if they know what has happened and if they have a better idea about when the ride might reopen
  • Come up with a plan “B” in advance in case one of your must-do rides unexpectedly closes
  • Mentally prepare little ones for potential closures by discussing the possibility at home (and offer a potential alternative activity in the parks)
  • Use that closure time to knock other things off of your list, take a break, grab a snack, or otherwise utilize your time in the park!
