HURRY! A New Haunted Mansion Souvenir Is Available in Disney World For a Limited Time

Halloween may be months away, but Disney is already giving us all kinds of teasers to get us ready for it.

Halfway to Halloween is in full swing, and that means new snacks, fun photo filters,  and returning sippers are already hitting the parks! But one popular way to celebrate doesn’t require a park ticket. Over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto has a special tiki mug for the occasion — but it’ll cost you!

Trader Sam’s is known for its hilarious bartenders, fun drinks, and souvenir tiki mugs — and it draws a crowd. On a “normal” day, the line to get in can start early, although there is generally a Virtual Queue system available to help with demand. But today, things were a little different. Why? Well, a NEW limited-time Haunted Mansion-themed Gargoyle Tiki Mug was released at Grog Grotto and Tiki Terrace, and people started to line up early.

The line for the Gargoyle Tiki Mug

This Halfway to Halloween specialty mug comes with your choice of either the Look Alive Mai Tai or the Ghoulish Delight. All of this for the low (ahem) price of $80! Yes, $80. But that price tag didn’t deter people from lining up. To get one, guests could head to Trader Sam’s as early as noon to get a wristband to guarantee a mug.

We got there a little after 1PM and grabbed a wristband, then were told we could join the “traditional” Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto virtual queue at 2PM to get seated inside the Gorg Grotto when it opened at 3PM. After signing up at the door for a virtual queue, we had a little bit of time to walk around the resort — but once they opened, we were one of the first groups to get called.

Grog Grotto

We ordered the Look Alive Mai Tai, which is made with Plantation Dark Rum, BACARDI Superior White Rum, Bols Blackberry Brandy, Passion Fruit-Orange-Guava Juice, Orgeat (Almond), Falernum, and lime juice. This drink was fruity but not too sweet, and blackberry was the main flavor we noticed. Overall we thought it was well-balanced and really enjoyed it — although keep in mind, it’s not served in the souvenir mug!

Alternatively, you could have chosen the zero-proof option. The Ghoulish Delight is made with Lyre’s Agave Reserva Spirit with Passion Fruit, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, agave, and soda water.

Drink Options

After we had our drink, we made out way outside to pick up our mug. There was a table set up with staff ready to hand out our mug, which was bubble-wrapped, in a cardboard box, and in a paper bag — very secure!

Mug pickup

If you didn’t get a spot inside the Grog Grotto, but you did get a wristband for the mug, you could still get your drink at the outside bar — the Tiki Terrace. But keep in mind, you would have to wait outside in the hot sun to get your mug! And there was a LOOOOOOONG line of folks waiting, so pack your patience.

Since we paid and drank inside, we got to skip this outside line. Now, let’s take a look at the goods!

Gargoyle Tiki Mug

The Gargoyle Tiki Mug is heavy but still feels fragile. It’s very detailed — even his candles light up!

The inside is hollow, so you could drink out of this if you like.

Inside

Overall, we thought this process was fairly well organized, although we did get there pretty early. The souvenir mug is pricy, but the drink was tasty and sometimes there’s nothing quite like having a limited-time specialty mug from Trader Sam’s. We have seen versions of this mug in the past at Trader Sam’s in Disneyland — but this is the first edition for the east coast.

These will only be around while supplies last. Be sure to check if there are any left when you visit.
