In case you missed it, the ongoing battle between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the Reedy Creek Improvement District, and Disney World involves some new plans.

After DeSantis appointed the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board in hopes of gaining control of property rights, taxation, and tolling around Disney World, Disney whipped out agreements previously made with the former Reedy Creek Board of Supervisors which basically stated that Disney would continue to govern itself for years to come, stripping the rights of DeSantis’s newly-appointed Board.
According to the Orlando Business Journal, DeSantis called the former contracts a “sham agreement” during an April 17th press conference and voiced his plans to tap into a Florida statute that could allow him to revoke the previous agreement between Disney and the former Board of Supervisors that left governing control to Disney. This agreement allowed Disney to have control over development within the Reedy Creek Improvement District.

DeSantis also voiced his hopes to file legislation to place Disney’s rides under routine inspection performed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

“They are not superior to the law enacted by the people of the state of Florida,” DeSantis said. “[Disney’s agreements are] not going to work. That’s not going to fly.”

However, Florida law states that “permanent facilities that employ at least 1,000 full-time employees and that maintain full-time, in house safety inspectors” are exempt from the State-conducted inspections, and as one of Florida’s largest permanent employers, Disney would normally be exempt. DeSantis, however, hopes to remove this right from Disney as well as his former plans to remove development rights from the company as well.

walt disney had a vision and hopes and dreams of disney world so that generations of people could come to this happy place. sadly he passed away before he could see it constructed, so his brother roy in his 70’s took on the task of out of love for his brother, built disney world, and out of respect to his brother, he named it walt disney world. walt disney world has been a huge contribution to the state of florida, look at all the businesses that have come and located near walt disney world, when you look back there was nothing there. i just feel that the elected representatives of the state of florida are stomping on the gravesites of walt and roy for creating and building a happy place for all people. as for saying this is what the people of florida want i believe it should be put on a ballot a let the people vote.
