McDonald’s Happy Meal

While McDonald’s has been recently using promotions like celebrity meal platforms, fun nostalgic seasonal happy meal pails, and the adult Happy Meals to create excitement around their menu options, it seems the company could be getting back to focusing on improving its core menu items.

McDonald’s has just announced big changes coming to its core menu items, including its notable lineup of burgers.

According to CNN, McDonald’s is looking to change how they’re building out burgers and giving them an upgrade. Fan favorites like the Big Mac and McDouble will see changes like softer buns, meltier cheese, fresh toppings, and oh, yeah more Big Mac sauce.

Chad Schaffer the senior director of culinary innovation at McDonald’s USA released a statement saying, “We found that small changes, like tweaking our process to get hotter, meltier cheese and adjusting our grill settings for a better sear, added up to a big difference in making our burgers more flavorful than ever,” But the McDouble and the Big Mac won’t be the only burgers seeing a swift change. The classic cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, and hamburger are also set to receive the same “upgrades”.

According to McDonald’s, the improvements were first made to burgers in international markets. If you’re wondering when you can anticipate seeing the changes here don’t worry, the company has already noted some US cities, like Los Angeles, Seattle, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. They’re also expected to be available nationally by early next year.

This news isn’t the only change that McDonald’s has seen in the past few years. The company has also made changes to improve the Quarter Pounder using fresh beef patties, a newly launched crispy chicken sandwich to replace older versions then offered, and even ventures with plant-based menu options. Their hope is that by shifting this focus back and giving customers fresher, upgraded experiences with their core menu items they’ll continue to strengthen the connection between customers of all ages and the simpler, established, and familiar menu offerings and continue to gain market share.
