The Star Wars Casting Announcement That EVERYONE Has Been Waiting For

Star Wars Celebration is underway in London, and we’ve already had a LOT of big news coming out of the event.

We learned about THREE new Star Wars movies that are on the way, as well as getting more details about some Disney+ series, including The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, and Andor. However, the biggest announcement may have just been about the Ahsoka series, where we got a new trailer AND release timeline. But now, another HUGE Ahsoka announcement has been made.

The Ahsoka trailer introduced us to some characters that are making their way from the Star Wars: Rebels animated series to live-action. That includes Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, and Sabine Wren. But it also teased the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was the big bad in Rebels. Well, now we know who will be the live-action face of the blue alien — and we think this announcement is going to thrill some Star Wars fans.

Lars Mikkelsen was the voice of Thrawn in Rebel and we are very excited to report that he will be reprising his role as the live-action Thrawn in Ahsoka! If you’ve heard his performance in Rebels, you may believe this is the ONLY person who could do the role justice, so this is a HUGE deal. The announcement was made early this morning at Star Wars Celebration.

We only got a small peek at the back of Thrawn’s head in the trailer, but Ahsoka said something that many hardcore Star Wars fans noted immediately, by calling him “Heir to the Empire.” Those who are familiar with the Timothy Zahn trilogy of books about Thrawn will recognize that phrase as the name of the first book in that series.

Will those books lay some of the groundwork for the live-action character? We’ll know when Ahsoka premieres on Disney+ in August.

We’re covering all the news coming out of the Star Wars Celebration this weekend, so be sure to check back with AllEars often!
