The time has come. Are you ready?

TRON Lightcycle / Run is now welcoming guests, and if you’re waiting on the edge of your seat to ride it — you’ve come to the right place. This new coaster has been in the making for quite some time, but is it worth it? We’re taking a look at how TRON Lightcycle / Run compares to other Disney World coasters!
Thrill seekers, we’ve got news you can use! Now that Disney World’s newest roller coaster is open, you might be wondering just how it stacks up to other Disney coasters. Luckily, we’ve done the tough job of riding all the Disney coasters — including TRON Lightcycle / Run and are sharing everything you need to know.

The first thing we should mention about TRON is that it’s not like too many other coasters in Disney World, and that’s clear from the moment you enter the queue. Granted, a lot of the queue is outdoors, and we’ll say that with the lighting and everything, it’s way cooler at night. But you’re SO close to the ride vehicles in the queue, they are literally zooming above your head as you’re waiting! That makes it unlike any other Disney coaster we’ve been on.

You also get some idea of the story in the queue: you are on Team Blue and you’re racing against the Grid’s evil program, Team Orange. You’ll see a lot of theming in this queue with details about the story. It’s sorta’ like Space Mountain’s queue, with all the details that are meant to make you feel like you’re in space, but WAY better.

Once inside, you’re transported into the Grid and will find yourself in a small, mysterious room. It seems like a regular pre-show is about to start, but the screen changes to glass and you see the Lightcycle launch of the riders in front of you. This is WAY different than any other Disney World coaster.

However, there are some pre-show videos to watch while you’re waiting that are reminiscent of the videos you see in Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT. There is also a lot of Team Blue imagery.

Also, this ride has lockers, which NO other Disney World ride has. You are required to leave your larger items in the locker, and then retrieve them after the ride. This is obviously unlike ANY other Disney coaster. There is a small compartment on each lightcycle for smaller items, like your phone (just don’t forget to grab it before you get off the lightcycle).

The ride seating itself is also completely unique to Disney coasters. It’s actually sort of like Flight of Passage, but potentially a little more uncomfortable. You have to straddle the Lightcycle while riding and you’re leaning against a hard surface during the entire ride. You are locked into place, with a back piece holding you there. It feels much more awkward than riding other Disney coasters.
These seats also have leg restraints, which we feel is probably the most restrictive part of the seat. There is a test seat in the queue so you can test it out.

The good news is that if you aren’t comfortable on the Lightcycle, adaptive seating is available. Just ask a Cast Member while in the queue and you’ll be directed to those seats, which are like any other standard roller coaster in Disney World. You sit in the seat with a lap bar/belt.
Most guests will ride Tron leaning forward as if in a Light Cycle. These guests are secured with a backrest that presses forward.
There is a normal upright roller coaster seating option too. Traditional lap bar seating, in the last car. pic.twitter.com/fMynwH4jeJ

We also have to mention the height requirement for the attraction: you must be at least 48″ tall to ride. The ONLY other Disney World coaster with that height requirement is Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Speaking of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, TRON Lightcycle / Run reminds us a lot of that ride, and is probably about the same length (meaning, it is fairly short). However, TRON Lightcycle / Run is a little smoother, more like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This one won’t shake your bones like Space Mountain or Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Note that TRON Lightcycyle / Run does not go upside down like Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster does, and that is something to keep in mind if you were worried about that.

The only other coaster we haven’t mentioned is Slinky Dog Dash, but there really isn’t much of a comparison except that both TRON and Slinky Dog Dash are roller coasters. Each does its own separate thing.
Overall, the TRON ride is a lot of fun. Although it did remind us a little of other Disney coasters, the Imagineers have created something with TRON Lightcycle / Run that’s different from any other Disney ride.
We’re bringing you everything you need to know about TRON Lightcycle / Run so you can be ready to ride on your next Disney World trip! Be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for the latest news and more.
