3 HUGE Disney Announcements You Need to Know

Disney has some MASSIVE projects in the works.

Disney Panel at SXSW

A few days ago, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro took to the stage at the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference and made some big announcements about the future of technology in Disney Parks.  We’re breaking down the biggest announcements made there, including some mind-boggling demonstrations.

Pixie-Sized Tinker Bell

If you don’t believe in fairies, YOU WILL when you see how Disney has created a NEW experience with a pixie-sized Tinker Bell that allows guests to have a real-time conversation with her. Using special technology, this tiny Tinker Bell can interact in real time with guests. We even got to have a chat with Tinker Bell and it was beyond incredible.

Similar to other similar experiences like Turtle Talk with Crush, Tinker Bell can respond to conversation in real-time, rather than having pre-recorded responses. According to D’Amaro, this new character interaction is a “blue-sky concept,” meaning the project is still in its early stages and we shouldn’t expect to see it in the parks anytime soon.

A New Prototype Robot

D’Amaro also brought out some Imagineers to showcase a brand new kind of robot that looked a lot like Judy Hopps. This robot can make dynamic maneuvers, like falling down and getting back up, ROLLER SKATE, and doing a somersault.

According to Disney, “this robot “incorporates motion-capture data to create performances that evoke emotion, giving Disney Imagineers a new way to bring out a character’s personality.” Note that this is just a prototype, so it’s also a project that’s still in its early stages.

The Hulk Coming To Disneyland Paris

Disney also announced that the GIGANTIC Hulk that’s currently meeting guests in Disneyland’s Avengers Campus will soon be coming to Disneyland Paris. The Hulk is actually a sophisticated exoskeleton worn by a Cast Member that allows Disney to bring such a massive character to life.

Hulk

We met the giant Hulk ourselves last year, and we have to admit that he is pretty impressive. This technology is part of Disney’s Project Exo.

So those are three HUGE things (one quite literally) that Disney has future plans for. We’ll be continuing to cover any new technological advancements Disney announces so be sure to check back with AllEars again soon.
