Proof That Bad Fan Reviews Can Destroy a Movie’s Success

A lot is going on in the world of movies right now.

Ant-Man Signs

Marvel’s latest film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, began with a confusing start at the box office, and things are getting worse. That’s right, the film has had a HUGE drop at the box office.

According to Variety, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has essentially collapsed in its “sophomore outing” due to negative word-of-mouth reviews.

This week it added another $32.2 million to its number, but that marks a “brutal 69% decline from its debut.” This now means that the film holds the “biggest week-to-week drop in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” which was previously held by Black Widow.

Despite this huge decline, the Marvel film is still in first place due to its big opening weekend numbers.

  1. Critics, who needs them, if you anticipate liking a film go see for yourself, everyone’s taste is different. I harken back to when the movie Gladiator came out to negative reviews, which became a multi-Oscar winner that year and is one of the best films that I ever viewed. Don’t let critics sway you from seeing a film, you don’t know who is paying them or who they have a grudge against. You be the judge and let others form their own opinion.

  2. The audience score at Rotten Tomatoes is 83%, a little lower than normal for MCU, but not near the 48% critics review that keeps getting quoted. Who cares what critics think!

  3. It’s becoming a bit ridiculous with people reviewing Marvel movies. It’s just a backlash because people need to hammer something so they can feel superior. They are not perfect, but people pick apart every second of a movie and if it deviates from what they want by an inch then they claim the movie is not good. Quantumania was a good movie. The best Marvel film? No. But it was a good popcorn movie that 10 years ago people would have said was a great addition to the MCU. People need to chill out.
