Disney World is always changing and evolving, from simple things like seasonal snacks and decorations to huge changes like new attractions and experiences.

Let’s take a look at all of the ride closures that are happening in 2023, so you can plan and prepare appropriately.

In order to keep Disney World feeling fresh and clean and to keep attractions and experiences safe, sometimes Disney has to close down attractions for routine maintenance or even complete overhauls as technology advances and new interactions are invented.

And some attractions that use water require more frequent and longer maintainece breaks to manage the wear and tear that water can have on an attraction.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Dates: January 9th — January 13th

Details: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will close for refurbishment on January 9th, reopening January 14th, 2023.

Reason: Maintenance and refurbishment

Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain

Dates: January 23rd, 2023 — late 2024

Details: Splash Mountain will close on January 23rd, 2023 begin to make the ride into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which is set to open in late 2024.

Reason: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure retheme

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration

Dates: Jan 9th. — Jan. 27th

Details: The Frozen Sing-Along is scheduled to close for refurbishment beginning on January 9th to 27th, 2023.

Reason: Maintenance and refurbishment

Rock N Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Dates: Feb 20th, 2023 – Summer 2023

Details: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios is going to be undergoing some refurbishment. The closure will begin on February 20th, 2023.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Kali River Rapids

Dates: Jan 9th. — March 2023

Details: Kali River Rapids is scheduled to close for refurbishment beginning on January 9th to March 2023.

Reason: Maintenance and refurbishment

Disney is constantly reviewing the status and upkeep of attractions and shows, so this schedule may change as the year goes on, and the dates of these scheduled maintenance closures may also adjust once Imagineers get into the attractions and see the current status and evaluate if additional repairs or upkeep is required.
