The DANGER With Trying to Ride Splash Mountain in Disney World Right Now

Splash Mountain is going to permanently CLOSE soon and be re-themed to a Princess and the Frog-themed ride, but if you’re trying to get on the ride right now, you might experience a big problem.

Splash Mountain

Rides can expectedly close in the parks from time to time. Sometimes those closures last a few minutes, but other times the rides can close for extended periods of time during a single day. Today, we noticed a closure that could seriously throw off your Magic Kingdom plans.

On the morning of January 16th, Splash Mountain was listed as “temporarily closed” on My Disney Experience.

UPDATE: Around 1:24PM, the ride was still closed. We checked with Cast Members who said they were unsure of whether the ride would reopen today but were hoping it would.

UPDATE: When we checked at around 4:37PM, the ride had reopened.

For a while, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover was also closed, but that later reopened and Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress appeared to be closed. That also later reopened.

So, if you’ve been hoping to get on Splash Mountain BEFORE its closure, this is something key to keep in mind. The ride could go down unexpectedly during your trip, throwing a wrench into those “final ride” plans.

What should you do if that happens to you?

  1. Check the My Disney Experience app for updates
  2. Speak with a Cast Member near the attraction to see when it is expected to reopen (sometimes they have more updated information!)
  3. Plan to hop on the ride first thing in the morning to avoid later potential closures
  4. Allow yourself at least 2 potential days to visit Magic Kingdom so you increase your chances of being there while it is open (if possible)
  5. Add some flexibility to your plans so you can hop on the ride whenever it does reopen!

Remember that Splash Mountain’s last operating day will be January 22nd, 2023. It will then be closed starting January 23rd, 2023, and will undergo refurbishment to reopen in 2024 as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
