8 Closures That Could RUIN Your Disney World Plans

There is a LOT coming to Disney World in 2023.

TRON

We’ve got new rides coming, including TRON and the Moana attraction. We also have new restaurants, including Roundup Rodeo BBQ and the Cake Bake Shop. But, along with new openings, there are also some closures you’ll want to plan for when visiting Disney World in 2023.

We’re sharing ALL the closures you need to know if you’re visiting Disney World in 2023 — both temporary and permanent.

Splash Mountain

We’ll start with the big one. Splash Mountain will be closing on January 23rd, 2023 for a long closure. It will be completely transformed when it reopens into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, based on The Princess and the Frog.

The new version of the ride is set to open in late 2024 in both Disney World and Disneyland. Currently, the Disneyland version does not have a set closure date.

Big Thunder Mountain

Another Magic Kingdom mountain will also be closing in January — though this one is far more temporary. Big Thunder Mountain in Magic Kingdom will close on January 9th for a brief refurbishment, likely reopening on January 14th.

Kali River Rapids

One ride that will be going down for a long refurbishment is Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The ride will be closing on January 9th, and currently does not show hours through late February (when the current Disney World calendar ends).

For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration

Also closing on January 9th is  For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The closure won’t last too long though, as the show has hours starting on January 28th.

Disney World Pools

The cold weather also brings with it recurring closures each year. With less people swimming, it makes for the perfect time to do some touch-ups on Disney World pools.

On January 3rd, the Lava Pool waterslide at the Polynesian Village Resort will be closed for refurbishment, with plans to reopen sometime in early February. During this time, the pool will still be accessible to guests.
