Disney Genie+ has come with a warning — it can sell out.

And this became a reality for the first time this week when Genie+ sold out in Disneyland (and, as of today, has sold out for three days in a row). But, there’s a reason behind Genie+ selling out — and it’s not all bad.
For the third day in a row, Genie+ has sold out in Disneyland very early in the day. This means that others in the park cannot purchase the MaxPass replacement.

While we have not seen Genie+ sell out in either Disney World or Disneyland up until now, that does not mean it was not a possibility. In fact, Genie+ has come with a warning that it is “subject to availability”, meaning there is no guarantee you can get it on any given day.
So why is this a GOOD thing? Well, let’s start with the fact there’s a high demand for Genie+ — but there are only a limited number of guests who can get it. Because it’s limited, those who did manage to purchase it will still find it useful and Lightning Lane lines won’t be allowed to get too long.

If even MORE guests could purchase Genie+ past that limit, you would end up in a situation where the Lightning Lanes could potentially be as long as the standby lines, meaning that no one benefits and guests paid for it for nothing.

So a limited number of guests allowed to purchase Genie+ helps those guests who have paid for the service. If you don’t want to be one of those guests without it, your best bet is to purchase it as early as you can. You can purchase the service before your visit as an add-on with a new ticket or vacation package. Or you can get it for an existing ticket on the day of your park visit after you’ve entered the park.

I was not aware that I could purchase Genie+ in advance as an add-on with a new ticket or vacation package. Is this a recent development that also applies to Walt Disney World?
