13 years, to be specific. Back in April, we saw Avatar: The Way of Water finally get its title, followed by a teaser trailer in May. Now we’ve got big news to share again: the film is reportedly over three hours long!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Avatar sequel has a runtime of around 3 hours and 10 minutes. The film is hoping to rank as one of the longer highest-grossing movies on Comscore’s list of top-grossing movies of all time at the worldwide box office. Right now, Avengers: Endgame at 3 hours and 2 minutes is in 2nd place and Titanic at 3 hours and 14 minutes is in 3rd place.

The original Avatar remains at #1 after all these years with a runtime of 2 hours and 41 minutes. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, movies have become longer, with many running over 2 hours and 30 minutes, and this trend is expected to continue until at least the end of this year.

Disney is hoping that the Avatar sequel will also revive the 3D format of movies, which had been written off by many moviegoers years ago. The new film could also mean a huge new wave of interest in the Avatar franchise, which would be great for The Walt Disney Company. The film is set to release on December 16th, 2022, so stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest Avatar news!
