NEWS: Universal Orlando Will CLOSE Due to Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian is expected to hit Florida this week, with the first landfall expected on Wednesday, September 28th. Florida is preparing for the storm by issuing storm watches and warnings, shutting down the airports, and requiring evacuation from the areas that are expected to be in the most danger.

So far, Disney World has responded by updating cancelation policies, closing some hotels and attractions, and making other preparations. The Disney World theme parks will close due to the storm, and now we have an update on Universal Orlando as well.

According to ClickOrlando, Universal Orlando Resort (including CityWalk) will be closed on Wednesday, September 28th, and Thursday, September 29th. Universal expects to reopen on Friday, September 30th if conditions allow.

While the parks will be closed, Universal Orlando’s hotels will remain operational “as they focus on taking care of guests.” Note that the Halloween Horror Nights events on Wednesday and Thursday will be canceled as well.

In addition to Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando is going to be closed on Wednesday and Thursday as well. Other Florida theme parks that are closing this week for the hurricane include Aquatica, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Legoland, and Discovery Cove, among others.
