What to Do When Technical Issues Try to Ruin Your Day in Disney World

Sometimes things don’t go as planned in Disney World.

A lot of things can totally switch up your day, from the weather to rides being closed unexpectedly. You can plan for as much as you want in Disney World, but some things are simply out of your control, like technical difficulties. We’ve  seen issues happen with Disney’s online services, so here’s what to do if it happens to you.

Today, when we were trying to use the My Disney Experience app, we encountered some serious issues. The app was basically not working at all! We kept getting this loading circle that would spin and spin and spin…

…and then it would simply just not load. 

Hmm.

We also tried to book some Genie+ selections, and it took forever for that page to load as well.

Uh oh

Then, when it did load, nothing showed up.

We also saw this message about not being able to summon park options.

Help!

And, we received this notification that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind had a delay in its virtual queue system, meaning no one was able to join at 7AM.

Yikes

We messaged Disney, and we received this message that the system was “undergoing some magical enhancements” and they didn’t know when it would be working again.

Not a lot of info!

But, right before 8AM, it started working again. Luckily the system wasn’t down for too long, but it can still really effect your plans for the day. So, here’s how you can be best prepared if this happens to you.

First, make sure your Park Pass Reservations are booked WELL in advance! You don’t want to try to be making a reservation on the day of, and run into these issues that won’t allow you to do anything. If it’s a busy day, the park passes can get completely booked up.

We’d also recommend buying Genie+ in advance if you know you’re going to use it that day, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to buy it if the app is down. You can buy Genie+ starting at midnight on the day of your park ticket.

And, when you’re making these plans, take screenshots of ALL of your plans so that if the app is down, you still have proof of your plans. It’s also helpful because you might’ve forgotten which park you have a reservation for, and a screenshot could prevent that!

This is a great reminder to also take screenshots even of Genie+ selections so you have proof of them if there are any other technical issues.

If you notice that My Disney Experience isn’t working, know that it’s probably not just you who is dealing with the issue. Make sure to speak to a Cast Member to see if they can help and to check if any other people are having the same issue.

Keep checking the app as well, because it could start working at any time. Make sure you keep your notifications for the app on as well, so you can be notified of things that are happening or if things are working again.

And, with all of this time spent checking your phone, definitely bring a portable charger with you so it doesn’t die!

Fuelrods are convenient but can cost you

The last thing you can do is get to the parks as early as you can if you notice the app isn’t working and want to make sure you still get to do what you wanted that day. Beating the crowds could now be the only way you still get to do everything you want!
