Mark your calendars for September 8th because it’s almost time to celebrate Disney+ Day!

Disney hosted the first ever Disney+ Day in November last year, and in May announced that we would be getting another this year on September 8th! But what exactly is Disney+ Day? And what sort of announcements or information can we expect to get from it? We’re going to be breaking all of that down for you right here.
What Is Disney+ Day?
Last year, Disney+ Day was celebrated on November 12th as part of the streaming service’s second anniversary. It was a day filled with new announcements about things that will be coming to the streaming service, as well as a day full of the release of new shows and movies.

This year, Disney+ Day is not celebrating the service’s anniversary, but will instead be the day before the D23 Expo, which is a several-day expo where Disney fans can get a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of various aspects of the Disney company, plus be the first to know about some exciting new announcements (we’ll talk more about the D23 Expo later).
What Happened on Disney+ Day Last Year?
So, what sorts of things happened on Disney+ Day last year? In short — a lot! Visitors to the Disney World parks that day got some unique character interactions like Dug, Carl, and Russel from Up and Moana, among others.

Disney+ subscribers visiting Disney World and Disneyland that day also got access to the parks 30 minutes before other guests and they were even given a free Disney+ Day hat and pin, too!

Disney+ Day subscribers in the Disney World parks also got free PhotoPass downloads on certain photos, plus access to unique Magic Shots and photo props. The parks themselves also got into the spirit and there were Disney+ Day decorations up to help get everyone into the spirit.

But perhaps most exciting of all was all of the announcements and new releases that came from the day. Disney+ Day marked the release of movies like Jungle Cruise and Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings to all Disney+ subscribers and new content streamed, as well, like the Disney+ original movie Home Sweet Home Alone, the Olaf Presents series of shorts, other shorts like Frozen Fever and Paperman, plus the first five episodes of The World According to Jeff Goldblum, and more. Basically, there was A LOT to watch on November 12th last year.

For new content announcements, last year’s Disney+ Day was also the first time we heard about the WandaVision spinoff, Agatha: House of Harkness. We also got the news straight from Patrick Dempsey and Amy Adams themselves that Disenchanted, the sequel to Enchanted was coming, too (it’s set for a November 24th, 2022 release). We got news about Hocus Pocus 2, and a sneak peek of the third season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (which began streaming several weeks ago).

We also got a look at so many Marvel series like I Am Groot and She-Hulk (both of which are premiering soon) as well as things like Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel, which both have already ended their first seasons.

What’s Already Been Confirmed For This Year’s Disney+ Day?
Like last year, Disney has confirmed that Disney+ subscribers will get early entry into the parks. They will be able to enter the parks 30 minutes early on September 8th. Disney has also shared that their Early Entry for resort guests will start 60 minutes before parks open on September 8th only.

Disney has confirmed several new titles will be making their debut on Disney+ on September 8th! Along with the premiere of the new live-action Pinocchio movie…

…they’ve also confirmed Cars on the Road, which follows Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater on a “romp across the country…”

…the National Geographic series Epic Adventures With Bertie Gregory…
…a docuseries called Growing Up…
…and Tierra Incógnita.
Additionally, Disney has shared that Thor: Love and Thunder will debut on the service on September 8th.
Other titles set to premiere that day include Assembled: The Making of Thor: Love and Thunder, Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return, Remembering, Dancing with the Stars: The Pros’ Most Memorable Dances, sing-alongs for Frozen and Frozen 2, and a new short from The Simpsons called “Welcome to the Club”.
Why Disney+ Day Might Be Different This Year
It’s also possible that Disney+ Day is just smaller this year. Disney just dropped a ton of Marvel announcements at the San Diego Comic-Con and is expected to make even more announcements at the D23 Expo which begins the day after Disney+ Day, so bigger announcements may be reserved for the expo.

There are tons of panels scheduled that are sure to offer some big announcements like What’s On The Horizon For Disney Entertainment, Marvel and Lucasfilm Sneak Peeks, and Disney Branded Television Previews. With all of these panels scheduled right after Disney+ Day, Disney may be waiting to make the biggest announcements then.
As we get closer to Disney+ Day, we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for more announcements. Looking for something to watch on Disney+ in the meantime?
