Traveling Over Memorial Day Weekend? Why You Should Prepare For HUGE Crowds!

Visiting Disney World during any holiday weekend, busy season or school break typically means higher crowds in the parks, but it can also make for some pretty busy travel days!

With Memorial Day Weekend upon us, we’re expecting to see some pretty serious crowds in the parks, especially with the grand opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. But, it’s not just the parks that you’ll need to be prepared to face big crowds in — experts are predicting some MASSIVE travel numbers across Florida too!

According to Spectrum News 13, AAA is predicting that approximately 2.2 MILLION Floridians will be traveling over Memorial Day Weekend with 90% of them will be traveling by car, and the other 10% by plane, train, bus, or cruise.

The busiest airport is expected to be the Miami International Airport, with TSA stating that they hired more staff to prepare for the surge in travel.

And, it’s only expected to get busier throughout the rest of the summer! According to Airport officials, they expect that peak travel days will see anywhere between “70,000 to 75,000 passengers each day” and the AAA predicts that Orlando will be among the top 3 travel destinations.

These numbers follow the trends that we’ve been seeing recently in airports, across the state of Florida, and in Disney World with record-breaking crowds vacationing.

So, there may be no way to avoid the travel crowds if you’re heading on a trip this summer, but you can be prepared! If you’ll be flying, be sure to check your flight status before you head to the airport and plan to arrive early — the lines for security could be long. The Orlando International Airport did recently introduce a new reservation system for their security line, so consider looking into that if you’ll be flying through MCO.

And, with health and safety measures still changing, you’ll want to check the TSA’s website and your travel destination (especially if you’re flying internationally) for the most up-to-date policies. You can check out the current face mask policy for airlines here.
