Should You Skip Disney World For A Disney Cruise?

Have you ever considered skipping Disney World…and instead choosing to go on a Disney Cruise?

While Disney World is full of magic, Disney Cruises can be just as unforgettable! And here’s what you get on a Disney Cruise – that you’re not going to find in Disney World.

Personalized Experience

If you’re looking for a more personalized experience, look no further than a Disney Cruise. While Cast Members in Disney World are also magical, the crew on a Disney Cruise has the opportunity to really get to know you! For example, your dining server sticks with you for much of your cruise and they get to know your dining preferences, likes, dislikes, and more.

Because Disney Cruises are on a much smaller scale than Disney World, there’s simply more time and the ability to get to know crew members, which can really add to the magic!

Less Planning

There is MUCH less planning involved with a Disney Cruise! Simply put, there are no worries about Genie+, Lightning Lanes, park reservations, tickets, ride queues, dining reservations, huge crowds, and plenty more.

Every day, you get an itinerary with all of the possible things you can do at each hour of the day on your ship, which makes planning your day super easy. You can choose activities or do your own thing, and you don’t have to worry about missing out on most things without advance planning.

All-Inclusive

Other than alcohol, a Disney Cruise is all-inclusive, which means lots and lots of FOOD. It also gives you the opportunity to try new foods, including specialty foods you’ve maybe never tried before (caviar, anyone?).

Okay, so it’s not exactly free since you’re paying for the cruise, but it’s still a great way to try a range of foods without worrying about a la carte prices adding up. Get out of your comfort zone, or visit the ice cream machine 20 times in one day — we won’t judge!

Vacation Vibes

If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation, Disney World might not be the best choice. Instead, a Disney Cruise can be a lot more relaxing with less planning and less running around from park to park.

You can still get the Disney experience with entertainment, characters, and more, but without the miles of daily walking and huge crowds.

Dining

Disney Cruises are known for having tons of dining options, incredible food, and uniquely themed dining rooms. You can find lots of delicious food in Disney World but the food on a Disney Cruise Line ship is elite.

You can visit dining rooms inspired by Marvel, Frozen, Rapunzel, Tiana, and lots more, including some luxurious restaurants for an extra fee! Some restaurants also feature an entertainment aspect, which means you’re getting a little more than just a place to eat.

Travel

Sometimes it’s easy to get into the vacation rut of always choosing Disney World, but Disney Cruises give you the opportunity to travel — Disney-style. Disney Cruise ships travel to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Bermuda, and even Europe (among many other destinations!), and we can’t forget to mention the paradise of Castaway Cay.

Castaway Cay is a private island owned by Disney in the Bahamas, where you can enjoy meeting Disney characters, beach activities, shopping, dining, a water play area, and more. International travel AND Disney characters? Sign us up!

Kids Entertainment

One of the best parts of a Disney Cruise is the youth clubs that let kids have unique experiences while parents get a break. Built-in babysitting, people! There are age limits, though, so keep that in mind if you’re planning a cruise.

Disney Cruise kids clubs include character interactions, activities, and even immersive experiences straight out of Marvel or Star Wars. Parents can step away for some relaxing time on their own, while kids are making memories.

Unique Experiences

While there is plenty to do in Disney World, there are special experiences you can find on Disney Cruises that you won’t find in the parks. Marvel Day at Sea is available on select cruises, and it includes special character appearances, superhero entertainment, and more.

There are also exclusive shows to catch, like the upcoming modern theatrical adaptation of The Little Mermaid, coming soon to the newest addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Wish.

There are other exclusive shows as well, with ones based on Tangled, Cinderella, and even the original show Disney Dreams — An Enchanted Classic.

Plenty to Do

You have tons of things to do based on your age and interests on a Disney Cruise. From pool activities to private adult areas, bars, shows, clubs, dining, and lots more, you won’t run out of things to do.

©Disney

Like we said earlier, you get a daily itinerary listing everything you can do on the ship that day, and you can choose how many activities (or how few) you want to do. Whether you’re looking for a jam-packed day or mostly just want to lay out by the pool, you have plenty of options to customize your experience.

  1. Just booked a DCL cruise in lieu of my normal spring Flower & Garden Festival trip. The WDW experience has been degraded with the loss of advance Fastpass+, paid resort parking, no resort package delivery, loss of Magical Express, limited housekeeping, park reservations/2pm park hopping, and the paid Genie+/LL$ system. It’s discouraging even thinking about planning a WDW trip now.

  2. 100% would do a cruise over the parks right now. Less stress, everything included. I have a lot of issues with planning a trip to the parks right now that the cruises simply don’t have.

  3. We’d love to! Had two cruises canceled in ’20 & ’21 yet will not try again until they get rid of vaccine and mask mandates.
