For many guests, a Disney World vacation doesn’t start at the front gates of the theme parks. Instead, it begins at the Orlando International Airport, when you finally land after a long flight and are greeted by the warm Florida humidity!

This airport is going through some MAJOR changes right now, with an entirely NEW terminal under construction. This terminal — called South Terminal C — will have some nifty technology, plenty of shopping locations, and even a restaurant by Chef Art Smith (yes, the same chef who’s responsible for Homecomin’ in Disney Springs). Now, the Orlando airport has finally released an opening DATE for the new terminal.
Wesh 2 reported that the Orlando International Airport will begin opening South Terminal C on September 19th, 2022. The entire opening process will take about 2 weeks.

This project has cost about $3 billion to complete, which is 10 times MORE than it cost to build the rest of the airport.

The first phase of opening Terminal C will allow it to “accommodate between 10 and 12 million annual passengers, both international and domestic,” which airport authorities are hoping will reduce crowds in other areas of the airport. 15 gates in the new terminal will belong to JetBlue Airlines.

It’ll be great to have a little more breathing room when we fly to Orlando, but we’re also excited to check out Sunshine Diner, which is Chef Art Smith’s new restaurant! This spot looks like it will have a bar and grab-and-go station in addition to the normal table seating.

And a new luggage system (which uses the same technology as MagicBands in Disney World) is going to be part of this terminal as well! It should allow travelers to get their luggage faster after their flights.

We’re excited to check out this new terminal when it opens this fall. Keep following AllEars for all the latest updates!

Here’s what should be fixed in the current terminal before spending billions on a new terminal…1- Baggage belt system that actually works. 2- Air Condition system that blows cold air on the B side terminal especially during summer when the doors keep opening and closing. Should of installed double doors for entryway like they have in cold climate airports 3- Ticket counters that don’t make agents lift hundreds of bags onto the belt system causing all kinds of back, shoulder and knee problems 4- Parking…since more people will be going thru the airport we need more parking lots! The ones now get full with just the old terminal nevermind adding thousands of more people! 5- How about a tram from the employee lot to the terminal that will get employees to work on time and safely without having to wait 10-13 mins in a line of 60 or people trying to get to work. No employees …no smooth airport operation!
