NEWS: Salt & Straw Will Use a Virtual Queue in Disney World

Salt & Straw — Disney World’s newest ice cream shop — is now OPEN!

We’ve already gotten a sneak peek at this spot, a look at their full menu, and we’ve had the chance to sample some of their flavors (more details and our full thoughts coming soon!). But now it’s time to let you in on an important detail you’ll need to know if you plan to stop by this ice cream spot soon.

Thinking of grabbing a scoop of Bottomless Limes ice cream (a limited time flavor)? Or maybe a little bit of Honey Lavender Ice Cream? Well you can get all of that and MORE at Salt & Straw, but you’ll need to know how to get in!

At times, Salt & Straw might have a regular walk-up line, but not always. During Salt & Straw’s opening day, we saw that the ice cream spot was utilizing a virtual queue (not unlike the ones we’ve seen at Gideon’s Bakehouse and more).

The virtual queue process is NOT just an opening day thing. Based on the information we got in speaking with Salt & Straw team members, once the line for the ice cream shop gets long each day, they’ll start using the virtual queue. So it’s something you’ll definitely want to watch out for if this ice cream spot is on your must-do list!

Here’s how it works (or at least how we saw it in action on opening day). There is an individual near Salt & Straw with an iPad. You’ll head to that individual to get checked in. Then, you’ll get a text when it’s time for you to come back. Once you receive that text, you’ll make your way back to Salt & Straw and hop in line to get in the ice cream store.

When we visited, the line of guests waiting to get into the ice cream shop went back almost all the way to Jaleo! The team member said they normally won’t let the line get that long. So again, be sure to check and see if the virtual queue is in use during your visit.
