Why It Might Be HARDER to Buy a MagicBand For Your Next Disney World Trip

In Disney World, there are two items you absolutely need to survive in the parks and resorts: your phone and your MagicBand. Both these items serve many purposes, acting as your room key, wallet, park ticket, and FastPass (though now it’s called the Lightning Lane).

Unfortunately, if you’re in the market for a new MagicBand, your options might be pretty scarce. Disney recently posted an announcement about MagicBands that might impact your selection.

For guests staying at a Disney World hotel, Disney offers a special pre-arrival exclusive selection of MagicBands on the My Disney Experience website. While MagicBands used to be free with any valid hotel reservation, Disney now offers hotel guests a discount on pre-arrival MagicBands.

Typically, there’s a pretty good variety of MagicBands online, ranging from classic solid-colored bands to themed “Happy Birthday” or “Happy Anniversary” bands. For now, though, guests might have limited options thanks to ongoing supply chain issues.

Disney posted an announcement on its website, stating, “Due to ongoing, industry-wide supply chain challenges, MagicBands may have limited availability or be unavailable in some styles. Our teams are working to improve our selection over the coming weeks and recommend Guests continue to check back to see if their preferred style is available.”

Even Disney World is facing supply chain issues!

In fact, Disney is running short on a few different souvenirs right now! We’ve been tracking the supply of bubble wands across the parks and resorts lately and noticed that Disney is facing a bubble wand shortage.

Disney World is running low on bubble wands, too!

We’ll be sure to let you know if we hear any updates on the MagicBand situation, but in the meantime, stay tuned for all the latest Disney news and park updates!

  1. Any updates about the supposed Magic Band Plus (or whatever it’s called) that was supposed to come out this year? We booked a trip for November and don’t know if we should get some now or just wait.

    1. Hi Rebecca! Unfortunately we are still waiting on Disney to give us an official release date, but we’re keeping a close eye on it and will update as soon as we have more information.

    1. Hi Richard! MagicBands do not need to be reprogrammed. Once you have activated a MagicBand it can be used over and over. I have several that I switch out every time I go to the parks.

  2. I’m not sure it’s not just a ploy to get people to use their phone instead. Disney is trying to get us to do everything on our phones now, open our room get on rides, get food etc. I for one do not want to spend my day on the phone.
