7 Important Closures to Plan for in Disney World

Picture this: an unprepared Disney guest makes their way through the Magic Kingdom and over to their favorite attraction, only to realize that it’s closed! Refurbishment projects and temporary closures can really come out of left-field if you aren’t prepared. If you’re reading this, though, you don’t have to worry — you’ll be all ready for your next Disney vacation thanks to our weekly refurbishment update.

What’s up, dog?

Planning a trip to Disney World during Valentine’s Day week? You’ve come to the right place! Let’s take a look at everything that will be unavailable in Disney World from February 14th to February 20th, 2022.

Magic Kingdom Refurbishments

Walt Disney World Railroad

Kicking off our list of closures once again is the Walt Disney World Railroad in the Magic Kingdom. As Imagineers continue work on the new TRON roller coaster, the railroad remains closed. (The train goes right through the construction zone!)

Someday the train will return…someday!

In the meantime, we’ll wait for an official opening date for TRON: Lightcycle Run, but until then, we’ll have to wait to take a ride on the old train!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

We’ve got a (quick) new closure to report! From February 14th to February 18th, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for a short refurbishment.

That train will come to a screeching halt!

By the end of the week, the attraction should be up and running! If you’re a fan of the wildest ride in the wilderness, you might want to plan a visit to the Magic Kingdom later in the week to avoid the closure.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Refurbishments

Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest — Legend of the Forbidden Mountain in Disney’s Animal Kingdom is still in the middle of a lengthy closure! On January 4th, the attraction closed for a  3-month refurbishment, but now that it’s February, we’re getting closer to the reopening date!

No visits up the mountain for now!

According to Disney, the closure will last through mid-April 2022. The good news is, recent attraction testing bodes well for a successful reopening in the near future!

EPCOT Refurbishments

Souk-Al-Magreb

In the EPCOT World Showcase’s  Morocco pavilion, the Souk-Al-Magreb gift shop remains closed. Previously, this store was set to reopen on February 6th, but (obviously) that date was extended.

Souk-Al-Magreb is closed for now!

The closure will continue for the week, so if you’re looking for a unique souvenir, try the  Mitsukoshi Department Store in the Japan pavilion instead!

Disney World Water Park Refurbishments

Blizzard Beach Waterpark

For those of you hoping to cool off, keep in mind that Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is closed for some seasonal refurbishments.

Blizzard Beach is closed for the season!

We’re still waiting on a reopening date, so stay tuned for updates! Luckily, Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is currently open, so you can still visit a waterpark this week!

Disney Resorts

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

This week, one of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort’s smaller pools is closed for refurbishment.

Flippin’ Fins Pool

The Flippin’ Fins Pool (located in The Little Mermaid section of the hotel) is expected to remain closed through late February 2022. The Big Blue Pool and the Cozy Cone Pool are still open.
