Earlier this week, we reported that the state of Florida had broken its single-day record for COVID-19 cases, and that rates in Central Florida alone rose sharply in recent days.

Now, it looks like that record has been broken once again as the New Year’s Eve holiday weekend approaches.
According to WFLA, Florida has once again set a new single-day record for COVID-19 cases. On December 28th, the state had reported a total of 46,923 new positive COVID-19 cases. Before the surge this week, the state had not seen reported numbers this high since August.

These latest numbers come as leaders and health experts across the country are urging Americans to cancel their New Year’s Eve plans. Currently, Disney World is planning on a number of New Year’s celebrations, including fireworks at both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.

UPDATE: According to WESH 2, Florida has broken the record yet again, with a total of 58,013 cases on December 29th. That’s 5000 more than the final number from December 28th (ended the day at 52,995). The record before that was Christmas Eve, with 32,874 cases. Since the pandemic began, Florida has accumulated nearly 4.1 million cases.

UPDATE: Click Orlando reported a new state record in COVID-19 cases on December 30th with 75,962 new cases. The average number of cases for the past seven days is 42,654.
We’ll continue to keep a close watch on the latest numbers coming out of Florida, as we know many of you may have upcoming Disney World or Universal travel plans in the New Year! Be sure to follow along for all of the latest news and updates.

This is not surprising. The Christmas holiday being on a Saturday has thrown the reporting schedule off. Not all counties report everyday, and it took until Tuesday for the reporting to catch up.
You need to also report that Fauci stated today that Omicron is not as severe as Delta even if it is more transmissible.
