Disney World Needs to Make ONE Big Change to These Attractions

Disney World and Disneyland Resort attractions get upgrades all the time. We’ve seen countless refurbishments over the years to update technology, change ride scenes, or fix something that was broken.

Jungle Cruise closed for refurbishment in Disneyland

Recently, one classic Disney attraction got a refurbishment on both coasts, and it led us to think about what changes Disney World should make next!

Mickey’s PhilharMagic Just Got a Big Update!

Mickey’s PhilharMagic recently got some big changes in both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park. The show previously featured scenes from classic Disney films like Fantasia and from films of Disney’s Renaissance era, like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. To update that a little bit, Imagineers added a sequence from the hit Pixar film Coco!

Once the scene was put together, Mickey’s PhilharMagic was closed on both coasts to prepare for the refurbishment. The Disneyland version reopened in July, and the Disney World version closed in October with a reopening in November. When we stopped by to check it out, we were pleasantly surprised to find that not only had the new scene been added, but the whole show had received a major update!

If you visited Mickey’s PhilharMagic in the past, you may have noticed some problems with the 3D effects during the show. Namely, the technology was a little out of date, which could make the viewing experience blurry and give guests a headache. But no longer! Now Disney has fixed up the effects and the picture is clearer than ever — it’s like watching a film at the movie theater!

It’s back and better than ever!

We enjoyed the revamped version of the show so much that it got us wondering…what other 3D effects should Disney fix? There are quite a few attractions that use this technology around the parks, so we’ve got some ideas!

Disney Should Update the 3D On Other Attractions As Well

Starting with Star Tours

What’s our first pick to get a refurbishment? Star Tours in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! This ride is known for making people motion sick with its blurry effects and sometimes jarring movements. It opened to the public for the first time in 1987 and had a major update — even getting a name change to Star Tours: The Adventures Continue — in 2011. The ride concept itself is really fun, but the 3D effects haven’t held up so well. If Disney could update it, perhaps more guests would give it another try.

Star Tours could definitely use some love!

After That, Muppet*Vision 3D

After they update Star Tours, we request that they’d move right down the street to Muppet*Vision 3D. This show is a Hollywood Studios classic that has been around since 1991, which makes it 30 years old! We love those classic jokes and corny effects used throughout, and they’d really pop if the 3D itself could be upgraded with the times.

We wouldn’t mind if they updated the 3D here!

Moving on to Animal Kingdom

After we fix those two at Hollywood, our next requested stop would be Animal Kingdom, where It’s Tough to Be a Bug gets an upgrade. And we’ll be honest with you — here, it’s not just about fixing the 3D. This show opened in 1998, a few months before the film itself came out, and for 23 years it has been scarring young children (and some adults) with giant grasshoppers and spiders dangling from the ceiling. It would be nice to have the 3D effects fixed on this, but we also wouldn’t mind if they took out some of the live effects…for instance, the insects that crawl underneath your seat at the end. *shudders*

Some of the live effects are definitely scary!

Back to Hollywood for Toy Story Mania

Back in Hollywood Studios, there’s more to be done! The beloved Toy Story Mania could also use an upgrade, considering the fact that it’s 13 years old now. However, it’s not too bad when you compare it with the others, but we’d love to see crisper graphics since it’s such a fun, energetic attraction.

Flight of Passage

Finally, let’s discuss Flight of Passage. This ride opened in 2017 and has far and away the most impressive and realistic 3D effects in Disney World. However, there’s ONE scene that seems to have a little trouble — when you enter the bioluminescent cave. For a few seconds, there seems to be two of everything and it can be a little off-putting, pulling you out of the immersion momentarily. Fix that one bit and this ride would have zero problems.

It’s seriously impressive!

There you have it, all the rides and attractions we’d love to see get a 3D upgrade! These are some classic parts of Disney World and we’re thankful to have them, but sometimes things just need a little bitty upgrade to make them a LOT better.
