With travel opening back up around the globe, concerns may be on the rise once again as a new strain of COVID-19 begins to emerge.

The strain, known as B.1.1.529 or the “Omicron” variant, was first detected in South Africa, and is now the cause for the latest wave of travel restrictions.
According to CNN, President Biden announced that the United States will restrict travel from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique and Malawi beginning Monday, November 29th, 2021.

These restrictions are out of “out of an abundance of caution given the WHO has now identified this as a ‘variant of concern’.” These travel restrictions go into effect on Monday.
