NEWS: Greta Gerwig to Write Disney’s Live-Action ‘Snow White’ Film

Disney has been remaking a lot of its animated classics into live-action films over the past several years.

Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, and more have all gotten the live-action treatment. One of the upcoming movies that will be remade is Snow White! We already know who is playing Snow White and the Evil Queen, but who is writing the movie? Well, we just found out!

Greta Gerwig is writing the screenplay for the live-action remake of Snow White, according to Vogue. Gerwig is known for critically acclaimed movies like Lady Bird and Little Women (2019), both of which she directed and wrote/adapted.

Not much is known about the plot of the movie at this time, just that it will build upon the 1937 film, according to Vogue. There have been several different versions of the Brothers Grimm tale that have been adapted into movies and television over the years, so there are a lot of directions the story could go in. Snow White will be directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer).

Snow White will be played by Rachel Zegler, who is known for playing Maria in Steven Spielfberg’s new West Side Story that comes out in December.

The Evil Queen will be played by none other than Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot. It sure will be interesting to possibly see her transform into a “hag” to try and trick Snow White during the movie.

And, the music will be important, too! Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman) are writing original songs for the movie. Filming should begin in March of 2022 — we do not have a protected release date yet, though. But, we’ll keep you updated when we know more, so stay tuned to All Ears!
