Remember when you were a kid and you asked for a new toy, but your parents would say something like, “we have toys at home.” But let’s be honest…the toys at home just didn’t compare to the shiny new stuff at the store!

Well, it seems even the Toy Hall of Fame has a pretty lax definition of what’s considered a good toy.
Along with iconic American Girl dolls and the classic board game Risk, SAND was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame, according to Click Orlando.

You read that right. Sand. That stuff you wash off your feet when you’re at the beach? The grainy, hot sand you brush off your fingers when you’re eating lunch by the ocean? Yep, it’s a toy.

Look, we understand that you can (and should!) play with sand. It’s versatile, it’s fun to build, but does it deserve a place in the National Toy Hall of Fame?

Well, the next time a little one asks you for a new toy, just give them a pile of sand! Who knew the answer to playtime was so simple? Stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest entertainment news!

If Play Dough is a toy, why not sand?
Ah, toys. Hall of Famers include sand, cardboard box, even a stick and a blanket. Who as a child has never played with the aforementioned items? Everyone has. Just add imagination and you are transported to anywhere. There are also many familiar items on the Toy of Fame honor roll. Monopoly, Scrabble, dollhouses , Slinky, etc. I have visited the Toy Museum in Rochester, New York many times. I am not affiliated with it in any way. The Museum is Disney World for Toys! These toys are not for looking at only; they are readily available for play. A child can play inside a turn of the century house, pilot a helicopter or stock shelves/cashier in a huge kid sized supermarket. There are thousands of books, a visit to Sesame Street, opportunities for kids to involve themselves in play. Real play. Not virtual. Playing with toys, collecting toys, sharing play experience with your children or grandchildren is invaluable. Bringing out your inner child does not diminish the adult you are today. So yes, bravo to sand! Play teaches language skills, social skills, improves eye hand coordination, encourages imagination and cognitive process. Walt Disney knew this, he provides play for children of all ages. And for that, millions are grateful
