PHOTOS: First Look at Dinner From Steakhouse 71 in Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Steakhouse 71 has officially opened at Disney’s Contemporary Resort! This new restaurant has taken the place of The Wave, which closed earlier this year to be reimagined as this new dining experience.

We’ve already visited Steakhouse 71 yesterday for lunch and earlier today for breakfast, and now we are back to check out its dinner service!

Atmosphere

We got a first look at the new restaurant when we stopped by yesterday for lunch, and the atmosphere is just the same for dinner!

Located on the first floor of the resort, you’ll be transported back in time as you walk down the hallways and see photos from Disney World’s past…

…and inside, the new decoration style is what Disney calls “sleek yet comfortable” with subtle nods to Florida heritage and design elements inspired by the 70s.

Menu & Dining

Dinner at Steakhouse 71 has a variety of options to choose from with quite a few dishes that were featured on the lunch menu, plus some new additions. And, it is all served (and ordered) a la carte.

Among eight different choices in appetizers, fans of The Wave’s famous Bacon and Eggs will be glad to hear that it has remained on the Appetizer menu at Steakhouse 71.

For dinner, we tried the Lump Crab Cakes, which are made with Old Bay Rémoulade, Corn Hash, and House-made Saltine Crackers for $15. 

Our server shared with us that this appetizer is inspired by Walt Disney’s love for crab dip and saltines and all of the crackers are actually made in-house!

Other appetizer options include the French Onion Soup (which features five different kinds of onions and is carmelized over five hours)…

…Fork & Knife Caesar Salad…

…Steakhouse 71 Onion Rings…

…Sea Salt-dusted Potato Brioche…

…and those Bacon & Eggs that we mentioned earlier.

The biggest difference between the lunch and dinner menu is the entrees! Instead of a wide variety of seafood, beef, and vegetable options, the dinner menu’s main focus is different Steakhouse Cuts (this is a steakhouse now, after all!)…

…as well as Sides and Sauces to come along with your steak.

We ordered up the 12-oz Roasted Prime Rib & Classic Yorkshire Pudding for $38 and got it with a side of Macaroni & Cheese…

…and Au Gratin Potatoes.

You’ll receive one sauce of your choice with your order, but why choose just one when you can have them all? If you’re a big fan of dipping, then you can upgrade your meal for an extra $6 and order up the Sauce Flight which includes every single sauce on the menu!

That’s right! You can have Béarnaise, Au Poivre, Wild Mushroom, Whipped Horseradish Cream, Chimichurri, Red Wine, and the Signature Steakhouse 71 sauce all for your dipping pleasure!

Prefer not to have steak? Well, there are still a few options!

For dinner, we got the Florida Sustainable Fish en Papillote, which comes with Shrimp, Fried Potatoes, Asparagus, Baby Carrots, and Lemon Beurre Blanc for $30…

…and the Chicken Chasseur, which is made with Pan-seared Airline Chicken Breast, Parsnip Purée, Roasted Mushrooms and comes with a side of Sauce Chasseur for $24.

And, yesterday with lunch, we got to try the Vegetable “Wellington” (which is the only plant-based entree option). It is made with Mushroom Duxelles and Fire-roasted Artichokes wrapped in Puff Pastry, Romesco, and Brussels Sprouts and costs $26.

And, we can’t forget about dessert!

All of the sweet options are the same as what can be found here for lunch including the Steakhouse 71 Chocolate Cake (which contains alcohol)…

…Ambrosia…

…Apple Tart Tatin…

…and Crème Brûlée.

Of course, there’s also a ton of different drink options to choose from including fountain beverages, beers, wines, and specialty cocktails. And, like the appetizers, the cocktail menu is nearly identical to the one that you will find with lunch, so we decided to get some of the drinks that we haven’t had just yet!

We tried the Pear French 75, which is made with Courvoisier VS Cognac, Pear Nectar, Agave Syrup, Lemon Juice, and Prosecco for $14…

…the Cocoa Boulevardier, which includes Knob Creek Disney Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon, Campari,Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth, and Chocolate Bitters for $17…

…and the Citrus Grove Cocktail that is inspired by the orange groves where Disney World was built. It has a mix of Campari, Green Chartreuse, Citrus Juices, Simple Syrup, and Orange Bitters and is available for $13.

And, if you’re looking for something non-alcoholic, we also ordered up the EARidescent Sip-a-bration (which, yes, we got earlier, but it’s SO fun!). It is a a cup of Minute Maid lemonade served in a souvenir 50th Celebration cup with a sparkling Disney character on the side. At Steakhouse 71, the character is Mickey and he’s not just meant to be a decoration for your glass!

Plop him into the drink and it all mixes together to create a pink lemonade that is flavored with Fruity Strawberry Punch!
