Six Ways Disney Has Changed for the Better Over the Years

Over the years, Disney World has changed quite a bit! Since 1971, we’ve seen ride updates, technology additions, and lots of new rides, resorts, and even new theme parks! In recent weeks we’ve seen some major changes that have many fans reeling (hello, Genie+ and new Annual Passes).

Love it or loathe it, Disney World is constantly updating to (in their words) improve the guest experience, and today we’re sharing six times that it changed for the better.

The Disney Skyliner

One of our favorite additions to Walt Disney World in recent years is the Disney Skyliner! This new transportation option has been a big bonus for guests staying at two Value Resorts and a Moderate Resort — all of which were previously only accessed by bus.

The Disney Skyliner has been very helpful.

The Skyliner makes it much easier to get to EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Riviera Resort for the popular character breakfast at Topolino’s Terrace. Not only that, but it offers great views of Disney World.

Even though there have been some issues with it since it opened, it has overall been a great addition to the Disney transportation network!

My Disney Experience

While the app may be a bit complicated to learn how to use, it has been a massive help in vacation planning for many guests. You can now schedule, book, and plan many elements of your vacation without the use of a computer!

Thanks to MDE, you can check wait times without walking to the ride, you can Mobile Order your food, explore digital maps of the resort, unlock your hotel room, and so much more. There’s so much you can accomplish in one app!

Updating the Value Resorts

In the past few years, Disney has been updating the hotel rooms at the Value Resorts, and it makes a big difference. Previously, the rooms were outdated and not really worth the price you paid.

Now, the rooms at the All-Star Resorts and Pop Century have nicer features, new furniture, new flooring, more modern theming, and more storage. They don’t look like motel rooms anymore!

Projections During Nighttime Spectaculars

Thanks to some amazing technology, projections have made big improvements to Disney’s nighttime shows. Just think how much they add to Happily Ever After!

The projections add so much to the show!

Projections add more depth than just the fireworks shooting off, and they help move the story of the show along in a more cohesive way. And it’s not just the fireworks — we definitely recommend checking out the projections during the Tree of Life Awakenings and on the Tower of Terror during the holiday season.

More Immersive Lands

Disney World’s original lands were very cool, but if you compare them alongside Galaxy’s Edge, Pandora, and Toy Story Land, you’ll be blown away!

Galaxy’s Edge is full of awesome theming!

In these new lands, you’ll feel like you’re transported to a different place and fully immersed in the environment. Disney has gone really hard into storytelling and details, and it shows!

Ride Changes and Updates

In recent years, Disney World has made several ride updates, and many of them have been big improvements! Some attractions got interactive queues to make the waiting experience more exciting, like Peter Pan’s Flight and Haunted Mansion.

Pirates of the Caribbean got some changed scenes.

Other rides have been updated to remove outdated elements, like the auctioning of women Pirates of the Caribbean. Jungle Cruise and Splash Mountain are also getting changes to reflect the times. So far, we’ve really enjoyed checking out all the new scenes on Jungle Cruise!
